Donald Trump told Volodymyr Zelensky at the UN that he has to "make a deal" with Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war that Putin started.

Russia started it, Russia can end it. It's just Putin's fragile ego that's preventing the war ending and a retreat from Ukraine (Crimea included)
