"We're concentrating our resources on the areas that will drive results for our most pressing needs, improving the core product, making Reddit a go-to search engine, and expanding internationally." --Steve Huffman

"Wait. No! Not like that!" --Also Steve Huffman

LMAO

Reddit search barely works

[–] Tarambor@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah you know it's bad when you start to use Google to search for stuff on Reddit because it's better at doing it than Reddit's own search.

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

TBF, Google search was better at searching most sites than any search function those sites had. Up until a few years ago anyway.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago

Most of them just use Google embedded into their site anyway.

i think people meant search engine using reddit when you are asking a question on google in the search bar.

yep. Forums used to be a thing but they have faded a long while ago for things like reddit and discord. Real websites are usually garbage designed to trip search engine results and now it's a ton of AI slop too.

So people started including reddit in their search to get the info they wanted. And now reddit has noticed and is leaning into that

I mean this is just a natural progression of any sufficiently successful company. They've successfully maximized their current value so now they must exploit and plunder that value to push into other markets. Its why Netflix has video games, its why YouTube pushes Shorts, and why Facebook got into VR, and why Tesla is getting into AI and robotics and on and on and on...

Reddit IS a forum, full stop.

Does reddit know this? Someone should let them know
