As an European, the "you can't close your account too fast, this process is mandatory" thing would be a one way to a trial.
And not a trial vs consumer, you'd be sued to oblivion by consumer protection agency.
You Europeans and your consumer protection laws... I love getting ripped off and taken advantage of by companies!

Not sure if you're aware of this, but companies break laws in the EU too.
That policy is likely illegal in the US & it certainly is extremely uncommon. I've never heard of it. This post isn't an EU vs US thing which they were trying to make it.
