Excerpt of the executive order https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2026/09/inaugurating-the-era-of-super-intelligence/ from last week:

The terminology used by the Federal Government should reflect the transformative capabilities of these technologies and the limitless opportunities they create for the American people. Accordingly, the term “Super Intelligence” more appropriately captures the promise, potential, and rapidly advancing capabilities of these technologies. It is therefore the policy of my Administration that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, the executive branch shall use the terms “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in place of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” and will not acknowledge the usage of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” in any applicable setting.

This is mental illness and all the safeguards, rules and honourable intentions that are in place, still when it comes everyone looks the other way.

It’d be easy to chalk this up to mental illness but in my opinion, I see something more sinister.

It’s jargon which is typically made up by cult leaders to create an in group and out group. When a cult leader renames something, it’s essentially a loyalty test to see who will use it and who won’t.

It can be both and more, but what is really troubling is that he has people who actually drink this insane cyanide Kool-Aid and force it onto all others.

Certainly there is more there that could be called sinister, he himself has significant moral and ethical shortcomings and is being propped up by people even further along that road. But anyone that has heard him speak would recognise profound cognitive impairment. With all the medical understanding of such conditions now the fact that no one in power has acknowledged it and suggested action says very much about what actual safeguards exist to limit despotism.

Insert meme: "Why not both?"

Not reducing the real exponential harm that the Trump presidency has caused, but we've now had two successive presidents where this has been done. Truly absurd.

Hmm, are you sure dementia is not a prerequisite for American presidents. It might be somewhere in the constitution

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

That's a really good point.
