Thought this might be some fun, so…

What are some lines from song lyrics that really hit you the right way? It could be that it’s deep and meaningful, or just something that amuses you. I’ll start:

Isn’t it funny how laughter looks like crying with no sound, and raindrops taste like tears without the pain ~ Queensryche - Another Rainy Night (Without You)

Droplets of “yes” and “no” in an ocean of “maybe” ~ Faith No More - Falling to Pieces

A smile as sweet as flowers
Wilted so and soured
Black tears stain the cheeks
That once were so admired
~ Dave Matthews Band - The Dreaming Tree

Her lovers queued up in the hallway
I heard them scratching at the door
I tried to tell her about Marx and Engels,
God and Angels…
I don't really know what for…

But she looked good in ribbons
The Sisters Of Mercy ~ Ribbons

In my life I hope I lie And tell everyone you were a good wife And I hope you die I hope we both die

No Children by The Mountain Goats.
The entire song is lyrically amazing. It's about a divorcing couple who were frankly broken to begin with. And while just reading the lyrics make it seem like a big downer of a song, it's in a major key, and there is catharsis to be found in its hatred.

Hey fuck you, I just got this song out of my head.

It is good though, especially the way it kinda drags and drones, and the lyrics fit somewhat awkwardly in the music. Invokes this feeling of droll persistence that complements the lyrics.

Sort of reminds me of Rootless Tree by Damian Rice

It breaks my heart because the chorus goes:

Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you
And all we've been through
I said leave it, leave it, leave it if It's nothing to you
And if you hate me, hate me, hate me
Then hate me so good that you can let me out,
let me out, let me out of this hell when you're around

But the last chorus, goes:

Fuck you, fuck you, I LOVE you
And all we've been through
I said leave it, leave it, leave it It's nothing to you
And if you hate me, hate me, hate me
Then hate me so good that you can let me out,
let me out, let me out of this hell when you're around

That one word change- changes the entire meaning of the song. It’s awful to separate and break up, but to acknowledge the love that remains is… man. It breaks me.

Yeah, that one word change is absolutely the crux of it.

It actually re-reminds me of a live performance of the song I mentioned that I really wish I could find now. Before the song the singer is doing some banter with the audience (which he is super good at), to tell them to sing along and says something along the lines of, "Someday you're gonna need this song, and I want you to remember when the time comes...and you'll know when it comes...that I gave you something. And you can say, 'so much I love you. So much I want you to die now.'" And then they kick in to the song.

On the super super off chance that anyone who sees this knows which mountain goats show that was, let me know.
