Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is just the beginning. Microsoft is making its tools Linux-compatible and is quietly, turning Windows into a desktop environment for the Linux kernel. They probably don't even need to tell their users about it. Surprise, WSL is everywhere now!
I had never thought about this, but my (hopefully not) naive brain loves this if it helps to move the masses to Linux.
And with the masses comes enshitificafion.
The money goes to Linux, then all the proprietary trash makes its way to Linux, along with the money.
That will choke out the FOSS tools that we've long enjoyed.
And we're right back to square one.
Let the masses have their trash, lest they ruin yet another good thing for us.
I'm already ready for us to switch to temple os.
Look what apple did with BSD. That's what they will be for Linux.
