You can't build a service for whistle blowers, petty criminals, and weirdos then say fuck security. Anyone got any recommendations for a VPN that isn't likely to have security holes as big as the ai bubble and won't give my comings and goings away to the first government or corpo interested in it?
Mullvad and airvpn are the two good non-self-hosted alternatives I know
Mullvad was funding literal Nazis in Sweden unfortunately
Source please so that I can avoid them too?
Edit: https://www.theregister.com/software/2026/07/21/some-mullvad-vpn-customers-tunnel-for-exit-after-co-founder-donates-millions-to-populist-party/5275012
Thanks!
My go-to VPN is just wireguard to my home LAN since I only use it to protect the first hop on public Wi-Fi. If you care about your ISP knowing anything that obviously won't work
I'm interested in some discussion of the downvotes here. It solves the first problem and I stated why it wouldn't solve the second depending on what they care about. I don't personally think a VPN is a good solution for the second at all: use Tor for that imo.
