I'm still waiting, reddit, why are you still accessible publicly? Second thoughts, spez? Seems this is taking longer than other announcements, like when they locked old.reddit behind a login. I saw the login prompt pop up on desktop once, and never again after that.

Reddit has repeatedly proved that they do not care about their users, regardless of what they say. No one who has left is eager to get back, they are only trying to catch new users which other social networks are much more effective at.

It also allows us to protect access to Reddit’s extremely valuable corpus of data

That's the real problem, people have to stop giving Reddit their data to monetize before they inevitable kick them to the curve and remove any control they had over their own data.

The trick is that when you get booted, do NOT close out your account. Start manually deleting and when you get to the years prior posts and can't go any further because you've hit the archived content wall.. leave the site for a few months or so, keeping your login active.

Just wait.

It's like facebook, in that when you show up after a time it will dig up your most current post to put up on your profile page.. the system is designed to show you your own shit to keep you engaged, so it will unarchive your older content to bring it up. I'm now three years deep into my posting history on old.reddit and I delete a few pages worth every week. When I get to the end of this current batch and can't go any further back.. I'll just wait. I don't even logout.

Patience is the key esp. if you'd been on the site for a super long time (I had 15 years..)

Rinse and repeat until it is all gone.

Holy crap they don't let you see your old posts anymore? The only reason I didn't delete them after I left was because I thought it would be a fun archive to see stuff I wrote years ago sometimes. Such a garbage website.

The worst thing is, they could for sure have been profitable enough to keep things rolling and pay them handsomely, but of course they had to IPO and chase the eternal growth.

Nope.

Seems to be if you've been a steady, daily poster, you only get to tunnel back a year before you hit the post limit.

The older posts are archived and you can no longer reach them via one's profile page.

This happened about the time the IPO rolled out and few people noticed it.

As I'm big on being patient on these things, and also sorta noticed how the other social media platforms work, (facebook was my main teacher) it made sense to wait and see what rolled out instead of getting what I could then saying "fuck it" and deleting the account.

Glad I was patient as once I saw it, the penny dropped. Facebook does the same thing in that as you delete your comments from your home page, it dips into your older posts to pull up stuff you'd put up years ago.. First on your own page, then on friends pages. (It's the latter comments that people make which keeps them in facebook's system even if they delete their account.)

It's built to positively affirm your presence on the site, so if you get all your current stuff deleted and maintain the account it WILL crack open the archived posts so you can get to them.

I was honestly pleasantly surprised when I saw this, and instantly understood how to work it.

Seems like everyone's copied facebook in that aspect. Constant engagement starting with YOU, right?

Easy peasy once you understand how it rolls.
