Its a rebuttal while the pitchforks are waving. Inevitably going to be volatile while the 404 piece has people feeling betrayed and let down.
I found the post useful personally. Seeing the chat screenshots, I have more information for my consideration.
I have zero interest in reddit comments, so didnt read those. I assume its the usual bots arguing with each other.
There is no rebuttal and 'Richard' ignores the most damning parts of the 404 article. His own screenshot has Andy telling employees to go on Reddit amd change the narrative!

Completely agree. That's why I've avoided expressing opinion on the overall situation.
Downvotes testify that neutrality is badly received, but I think everyone should take the information from proton and 404 plus their personal experiences and make their judgements based on that.
I plant to ignore the subject in future (and should have already done so here), it has proven to be ridiculous in the past due to the whole fan culture thing, and it has been none of my business since I walked away from my subscription a year, or 2 ago.
"personal experiences and judgments" definitively, but even in the very recent past (the google bollocks --> lake america) proton was being widely recommended as the replacement, and the masses were just gobbling it up without appearing to put any effort in. proton might lose fewer customers than they just gained.
It's worth reading some of the comments, particularly the ones by OP (EpokK1). He had time to prepare the original post and polish it a bit; the comment replies had to be quicker to beat the time decay feature/problem of threaded discussions. His in-thread replies are less polished, and speak to his character.
