Regardless of whether this pans out or not, as a non-American, it's insane to me that any of this stuff is in the hands of private companies in the first place.

I have a buddy that makes animations for video slot machines. When a new slot machine program is finished the FBI goes over everysingle line of code to make sure it is honest. There are no claims of proprietary information that prevents this evaluation. Our voting machines are treated with a lower standard than our slot machines.
