Is anyone here so hardcore that they don't even bother with mainstream social media? If its not on Lemmy or Mastodon it must not be important? Anyone that hardcore?

Reddit has had ads for like 10 years my dude lol longer than that tbh. What ad method are you specifically referring to?

I was using Reddit is fun and when the killed the API I came here but still occasionally checked the Reddit app. Can't remember what exactly put me over the edge but it was something about ads on the app I couldn't handle anyone.

Yeah I used Relay and when the API stuff happened I saw the reddit experience that people had apparently been having for years and was floored that people still used it, it's so annoying. The constant ads, the community/post suggestions for shit I wasn't subscribed to, all the weird avatar and badging stuff.

Got it. Yeah the API bullshit was when I stopped moderating and left. The moment spez called us “landed gentry” (hence the username) and put his complete and utter distain for users on full display, I decided I had too much self-respect to stick around and give them my free labor anymore. Leaving that site was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time and honestly my mental health has vastly improved
