Washington and Moscow are aiming to reach a deal to halt the war in Ukraine that would lock in Russia’s occupation of territory seized during its military invasion, according to people familiar with the matter.

Putler might be aiming to reclaim Alaska and agent krasnov would just handle it to him with roses on the top.

I’ve seen a comment like this on a couple posts. What is driving this thought at all? Is there some sort of article or something that leads people to believe this would even happen? Why?

It's been common knowledge for a long time that Trump is Putin's asset, because Putin's got dirt on him that even he is embarrassed by (and also because he loves dictators so much that he'd do anything one asks of him even without the blackmail).

Yeah, the Putin and Trump in cahoots part I know and understand. It’s the selling Alaska back. Taking away a state and lessening what America is probably won’t sit well with his base even if they don’t care about Alaska itself. It’s been a staple for long enough and has oil so I’m not sure they would be ok with it in the continental US.

I could be totally off though. I dunno.

The part you've missing is that it'd be Trump selling Alaska, not the USA.

He'd do it in such a way that he'd get most of the money, while presenting it as the yugest deal in history.

His base wouldn't like it? Who cares, certainly not Trump. It's not like he plans to hold any elections ever again. (You underestimate how much of a cult MAGA is, though; most of them would happily drink whatever coolaid he tries to sell them.)

It'd be economically, politically, and diplomatically disastrous? Sure, but what has he done that hasn't been one, two, or more often than not all of the above? He doesn't care either. He'll keep on grifting until he dies or until he can't squeeze any more money out of the country, at which point he'll scamper away with his gains.

Plus, with Alaska in Russian hands he and Putin could invade Canada from both ends, and soon sign another yuuge deal splitting it up in whatever way benefits Putin the most. A definite win-win in Trump's eyes.

Well, here’s hoping that theory is wrong then.

Based on something that there are pro russian reublicans in Alaska which "they think they would be better under russian rule "because they already live like russians in Siberia" And have more common with russians anyway"

Probably few inbred rednecks that first time opened a history book about Alaska and found out it used to be under russian ownership a long time ago "the typical inbred redneck brightness while probably drunk and few braincels working nothing that special so".

These statements were actually started by some alaskans themselves same time as russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. Putler never had said anything about that himself but some russians did comment on the article saying they should help the pro russian alaskans free Alaska.

Because there is support for returning old russian land to russia and it when it was sold for us it was too low price which he blamed americans for tricking russians claim US never paid the full price for the land. And that's why US doesn't have the full ownership of the land he used similar claims about Crimea in 2014.
