Lemmy is comprised of many instances, many domains, all of which have their own agenda. Some are right-leaning like .ml and .world and the moderators practice similar censorship to Reddit (including but not limited to progressive, controversial, anti-establishment or anything against their personal values), some are extreme hate incel groups that only talk about killing or doxxing people and are unmoderated maybe, some have moderators who endeavour to uphold the ideal of true freedom of speech and refuse to censor anybody, and some (Looking at you, Blåhaj) are left-leaning, have mods that allow everything except hate speech, and aim to protect the queer community from cruelty at all costs.

So the answer is "anything your heart desires". The repercussion or censorship of your contribution depends on the policies of the instance you account with and the instances whose communities you interact with.

Blahaj bans people under false pretenses. They are not subtle about it.

Your description of them is laughably wrong. Using protecting vulnerable people as an excuse to shut down people that disagree with you or your pals in a way that does not violate any rules is not protecting vulnerable people in fact it could be making them less protected all around.

right-leaning like ... .world

?

[–] brucethemoose@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Welcome to Lemmy, lol.

Did you not get your Molotov at the door?

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Also I would say .ml is extreme left, in several ways.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They went so much to the left they came through the other side. I mean they adore China and Russia.

.ml almost Magellaned the political spectrum.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

This also seems accurate

[–] PixelatedSaturn@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I wouldn't say they are extreme left. They are just extremely disturbed.

[–] RedditIsALostCause@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I’m so glad to see other’s possess this opinion. The mental gymnastics they do to try to justify their insane positions and rhetoric dumbfounds me. Made the mistake of making my first account on that instance and was getting downvoted left and right for pushing back on Pro-“USSR” (they don’t even bother calling it Russia) and Pro-“DPRK” or “Korean” (because they act like North Korea is not a separate state run by dictator at the suffering of their people) content.

I thought I was taking crazy pills until another kind user said I’m not crazy, just in the wrong instance lol. Life-saver.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just as with a computer, you need to setup a "firewall" for your brain lol.

I once read about some crazy conspiracy theory (or maybe it was some youtube video, dont remember) about how they said they have secret info about "the elites" were about to drop a nuke/emp on NYC as a sort of weapons test, I was like idk 15 years old maybe, I almost believed it for a second, but then nothing happened when the time came, of course. Crazy doomsday predictors be everywhere, I quickily learned that the internet is not a trustworthy place, can't be believing everything.

Trust your own internal logics in your brain first, then the list goes like:

  1. What you directly witness
  2. First-Hand eyewitness testimony by someone you've known IRL
  3. Second-hand story told by someone you've known IRL
  4. Random Strangers
  5. Acredited Mainstream Sources (including FM, TV, Newspaper, etc...) Official Reports
  6. The general internet

(adjust according to how much you trust each specific source, don't trust assholes/dictators, for example)

[–] RedditIsALostCause@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fully agree, especially with your list. Tragically that frequently leads to nuanced opinions, and those can cause social friction since it appears strict conformity to one of two “sides” is required to participate in (at least online) society.

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Oh yea, I keep getting downvoted for my pro-gun views, because they just assume I'm some right-winger. Like no lol, I just distrust cops and want the people to form well-regulated militias to keep the peace.

I’m a sane leftist (idek how to label myself anymore in light of current politics and global divides), so also pro-2A.

It feels like there’s a billion false flag attacks within left-leaning online spaces that have completely fractured it. I get that that’s not new, but it feels like we are accelerating in a very negative way lol. I personally think that the abuse of the doctrine of intersectionality and use of identity politics by my peers have destroyed any hope for a strong progressive front.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's more of a conspiracy community, like flat Earth. They're fans of right-leaning policies depending on if their favourite nations are the ones doing them. The communist stuff is just for decoration.

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

It's the biggest. You'll get some of that, but not the norm

[–] hisao@ani.social 7 points 2 days ago (3 children)

right-leaning like .ml and .world

If you didn't know ".ml" in Lemmy instances stands for "marxist-leninist". So ml ones are far left, and "lemmy.world" in particular is left-leaning.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Then why do they adore China and Russia?

[–] itztalal@lemmings.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They carved out a path of stupidity that legitimately makes no sense, but they don't allow any dissent so there's no way for people to change course.

“They carved out a path of stupidity…”

Beautifully put. Great phrase.

[–] socsa@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago

And it's absolutely infested with right wing trolls pretending to be leftists trying to convince people not to vote.

[–] itztalal@lemmings.world 1 points 2 days ago

I don't know if "far left" is the way to describe them.

They have more in common with flat earthers than the left.

[–] RedditIsALostCause@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No real commentary on what you said, but excuse my recovering-Redditor-pedantry. In my experience/opinion .ml is EXTREMELY far left (to the point of almost horseshoeing back to being far right) but in reality they’re simply just far left and EXTREMELY authoritarian. So Auth-Left if you’re looking at the political compass (not a perfect compass or representation of the political ecosystem but I’ve not seen one that’s better).

[–] Lyra_Lycan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago

No worries, you're welcome to correct me if I got the wrong impression of the instance. I've considered myself leftist ever since I was politically radicalised (working on decreasing it) and I kind of agree that some far left are as crazy as far right. I don't even like talking about political preference in such a bipolar context, life is a scattergraph, but it's sometimes useful.

Some are right-leaning like .ml

lol.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

.world being considered right leaning is wild to me.
