Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1641 readers
15 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

I was just perusing the modlog when I noticed something interesting. Apparently posting news about Gaza/Palestine is not allowed on !worldnews@sh.itjust.works. I decided to check the side bar and didn't see anything. The only pinned post also does not indicate that this is not allowed

edit: the mod in question is @Eyekaytee@aussie.zone . sorry for not originally tagging. i hadn't realized it was a rule that this must be done. i thought it seemed inappropriate since i was trying to initiate a conversation about a community's rules and culture rather than start drama about an individual

That is not what he said at all, he was explaining why he supports russia, you completely misunderstood his point, reread the conversation.

a simplified version of his claim:

"i support socialism, russia is strategically beneficial for socialism because they trade with socialists and may one day be socialist, as evidenced by [the poll in question], socialism being on the rise in russia is part of the reason i support them over western powers."

see how at no point in that claim did he say that socialism is good because it has popular support?

you didn't understand the assertion and guessed what he was saying and then treated him poorly based on that misinterpretation, you should apologize.

honestly why would anyone argue that socialism is good because a country likes it??

Sorry, I went back, read the comment and still don't see a direct assertion that socialism being on the rise in Russia is also part of why he supports it. The poll at best seems like a random addition to the point.

Regardless, if that IS what he was intending to say, then i would be willing to grant that my angle of attack regarding this specific issue is misplaced, but i did not get that initial impression.

That is both very obviously what he was saying and also makes all of his responses to you make sense, also it is very easily inferred, you just went with a very bad faith interpretation for no apparent reason.

you should apologize.

@Cowbee@lemmy.ml can you confirm

[–] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 months ago

Yes, that is my point, you're correct. Though, I do think when combined with other points on the positives of socialism that its perception increasing in post-socialist countries is useful, though not by itself.

Hold on now. Let's not try to make it like i was intentionally trying to argue in bad faith here. I misunderstood his argument and to be fair to me, he did not try to point out that i misunderstood it. He only attempted to reassert and double down on his claims. This isn't about what is or isn't or should be obvious. It's about what actually happened.

And no, I'm not apologising to anyone. I made an error and i admit to that. That's about as much as you'll get from me.

what do you think this post is?

And no, I’m not apologising to anyone. I made an error and i admit to that. That’s about as much as you’ll get from me.

this doesn't change the fact that you should.

what do you think this post is?

Well it's not him asserting that he cited the poll as justification for HIS OWN defence of a Russia that's for sure.

[–] communist@lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

"Citing the fact that Russia has increasing support for socialism as proof of Russians having increased support for socialism is perfectly valid."

can you rephrase this sentence in your own words?

then

can you explain why he would say this?

[–] GrammarPolice@lemmy.world -4 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I'm pretty sure Cowbee is not Russian, so i don't think he's attempting to refer to himself from a third person perspective there.

I interprete this as an argument in favour of the Russian populace and not himself.

I don't even vaguely understand what you're saying or what your interpretation of these words could be from this post.
