  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the primary mod account @EuroMod@feddit.org

The left-wing (NFP) has not won. They have 178 seats.

Centrists (Ensemble) have 158 seats.

The far-right + the right have 209 seats.

I don't like Emmanuel Macron but claiming the left-wing has won is delusional.

A little recap for people around the world:

  • assemblée national > senate (i'm not sure if it is the correct translation)
  • Rassemblement National = RN = far-right
  • Ensemble = centrists = Macron group
  • Nouveau Front Populaire = NFP = left-wing "alliance" with communist, ecologist, socialist party,

I said :

left-wing has win with a narrow margin.

And do you know why the chart mention LR twice ?

  • Les républicains (LR)
  • Rassemblement national (LR + RN) => RN (LR+RN)

The LR were opposed to an alliance with the RN.

82 % des députés qui siégaient au sein du groupe LR jusqu'à la dissolution de l'Assemblée nationale se sont d'ores et déjà exprimés contre une alliance avec le RN.

Translation:

82% of the deputies who sat in the LR group until the dissolution of the National Assembly have already spoken out against an alliance with the RN.

Most of LR opposed to alliance with RN. It was a standalone decision from Eric Ciotti, old secretary of LR and he faced opposition. LR tried to remove him from secretary position several time.

And the chart showcase it well. Let's recap:

  • Les républicains (LR): opposed to an alliance with the RN
  • Rassemblement national (LR + RN) => RN (LR+RN): LR that agreed with Ciotti decision of an alliance with the RN.

Here, NFP is a single group that include several left-wing group : socialist, ecologist, communist, france insoumise.

So the score should be : NFP 178> centrist 159 > RN 143

You are right, there is no clear winner but :

  • In france, in you get 48,9% of vote and if i get 48,8%, you win the election. Unjust.
  • If you dig how the legislative 2024 went...there is something interesting. The first round often ended with 3 groups : NFP, centrists, RN. In order to block RN, NFP and centrists did a deal. The group (centrist or NFP) who led the first round, stay and the other desist. 210 seats were desisted by left-group to centrist. And 89 seats were disputed with 3 groups.

⚠️ I may be wrong. I can't find good data. ⚠️

Why centrists/LR didn't desist ? If i recall well, it's because of LFI candidate that were part of the NFP. So, It favored RN and divantaged NFP. (But i need data to confront what i said)

Futhermore, let's talk about the republic process. Î recommend you listening to Dominique Villepin (french, you can try subtitle translation), he is part of right wing and he understand well what is at stake, even for Gaza. In the video, he explains that we need to do thing in a certain order :

  1. Select a prime minister from the NFP group. They will have a hard time because their governement won't last.
  2. Then select a mixed governement from group that opposed to RN

Why it is important to achieve this in this order ? Because it will give to the president more opportunity and appease people. And, the president Macron alway refused to chose a left wing minister.

On my personal point of view, we should destroy president function and create a senate composed of people from various lifestyle. Not politicians. i want people : workers, dancers, waiters, deaf, blind, trans, woman, child, scientifics, cleaners, farmers, soldier, policeman...in the senate.

Currently they don't represent us.

Edit : typo + rewording for better understanding.
