Government ministers have confirmed they are considering measures to move homeless people out of Auckland's city centre - but the exact details remain unclear.

Asked for more details, Justice Minister Paul Goldsmith said he had been tasked with ensuring police had the tools they needed to tackle public disorder.

"It's blindingly obvious to everybody that the CBD, particularly of Auckland, but a lot of places, have been characterised by disorder and real concern around public safety," Goldsmith said. "We're open to some new suggestions in that area."

Asked specifically whether he would consider a ban on rough sleeping, Goldsmith said: "We're working our way through those issues... when we've got something to announce, we'll announce that."

Its much needed. My preference is to do it properly and house then or find an area that has services available. But jf thats not an option then I would still support getting rid of them.

Its pretty much universally supported by aucklanders to get them out of the city. They are so aggressive and crash out daily.

Yes of course they want them to be moved elsewhere, but those people elsewhere aren't going to be happy with them there either. We can't solve problems by making them someone else's problem. We need to solve to root cause of the problem.

Yes of course root problem fix is best but if its not an option I'll take anything at this point. Putting them elsewhere affects less people than having them in the busiest cbd in the country. Its so damaging having them in the cbd.
