Because Jeffries is the Democrat house leader and they don't want to challenge leadership.
Yes, and Schumer is the Senate leader. Being the leader doesn't (or at least shouldn't) mean your position is guaranteed. IMO the constant capitulation to the status quo is part of why we are in the situation we're in now, and it's also part of why I'm concerned that the recent wave of progressive wins will matter little in the end.
As a side note, I can't stand the worthless waffling and misdirecting politicians do rather than just say what they mean.
Indeed, especially since the Democrats caved on the shutdown without achieving anything. People desperately want to change DNC leadership but the 'progressives' are now kicking the ladder after they climbed into power.
