So he basically said "I know I fucked up and no one wants me here but it's my job so let's focus on the material". Didn't look "extremely awkward" to me. I mean, fuck this guy but what do people expect him to do? Kill himself?
Yeah, but if want him to fail in a way that makes the rest of his short existence painful and absolutely miserable, and his real punishment would then be "no morphine or even Tylenol".
That should actually be the default for everyone in there, tbh.
And maybe live stream their descent into death.

Even if he'd never met JE in his life he'd still be an SOB. Not a good dude, not a good economist, should not be teaching at all, and at 70 has every right to retire and just go the fuck away.

he's a rich white man who was an advisor to clinton and obama. He was also the president of harvard and is (now was) on the board of OpenAI. He is rich with a LOT of connections. He will be fine. He's not gonna have the the same issues we are currently facing in the job market.
Oh yeah I didn't read that much about him. Fair enough, I suppose a normal professor wouldn't have Epstein connections.
Lets not forget the part where he asks advice from Epstein on how to romantically approach one of his mentees.
I don't think he feels any remorse, he is just trying to strategically minimise his losses by giving the appropriate soulless responses. Anyone with a drop of conscience and respect for their students would have permanently resigned from teaching.
I don't know what he feels or thinks. I'm just commenting on the click bait title. What I would be interested in is why he's still allowed to teach at all. Then again, maybe titles like that help direct attention to it and will get us some answers from Harvard?
It is awkward for a prof to be in world news for romantically chasing after a mentee, asking for advice from someone he knew was a convicted sex predator. Then he is expected to lead a lecture. Maybe you've never led a college lecture, but I can assure you from experience that would be a very difficult situation. Maintaining an environment of respect between professor and students is already difficult in normal circumstances
I mean it is awkward that he seems to be apologizing for a very serious allegation but his apology sounds not too different from "sorry I was 15 minutes lates to class. welp lets continue". I agree this should have been resolved on the university level but this guy likely brings shit tons of money to the department through his connections and we have all seen with Trump adminstration how board of directors behave when threatened with funding cuts.
Yes
