Republican lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene, an influential figure among the far right and longtime ally of Donald Trump who recently had a dramatic falling out with the United States president, has said she is quitting her seat in Congress.

Previously an icon of Trump’s Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement, Greene had a very public falling out with Trump, with the president announcing earlier this month that he was withdrawing all support for the congresswoman he described as “‘Wacky’ Marjorie”.

Greene has cited as a cause for her rift with Trump her outspoken advocacy for releasing the government’s files on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump had dismissed the Epstein issue as a “Democrat hoax” and has struggled with uproar in his MAGA base over his U-turn on a pre-election promise to release government files on the case.

Remember when we thought Dick Cheney was evil? And now he's considered an outsider to party loyalists because he's not fascist enough for them. And Dick Cheney was VP not 20 years ago. He left office in January 2009 when Barack Obama and Joe Biden took office. 16 years later, the "Tea Party" Republicans or "Tea-publicans" are considered left of center by the current right wing base.

MTG was even seen as extreme just a few years ago, and now, despite all the fucked up shit she's said and done, she draws the line in the sand at teenage and preteen girls being sexually abused, and her fellow MAGA Republicans are saying she's too far to the left.

Who will be too far to the left in a few more years?

Also, friendly reminder that villains turn on their allies when their needs stop aligning. Heroes only do that when their allies' morals or ethics are compromised. With villains, it's more like when their allies show signs of morals or ethics, they turn on them. That is to say, you know you're the bad guy when your friend drawing an ethical line in the sand is a bridge too far for you.

MTG is putting up more opposition against MAGA betrayal than AOC does against Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries.
