You need to introduce your partner to spoons.

[–] Dadbod89@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Dude at least they attempted to scoop it out. My better half cuts it in half and SQUEEZES it out because she's decided it's better/easier than cutting it out properly. Now I walk into the kitchen and find the mutilated remains of our avocados.

The way my ~~partner~~ pet ostrich eats avocado.

I was back home visiting my family last year and I noticed my mom struggling with an avocado. She had the skin about half peeled off and was trying to hold onto the slippery inside while peeling the rest of the skin off in little chunks. I asked her what she was doing and she answered “peeling the avocado” like it was some ridiculous question. About this time my wife noticed what was going on and started cracking up laughing. She finished peeling and awkwardly slicing it while we discussed the fact that we had never seen anyone do it that way and on the next one we showed her the “cut it in half, remove the pit, and scoop it out” method. She was blown away. Apparently she has just always peeled them and never questioned if there was an easier way.

The way I peel them is better than both methods and similar to both. I cut it in half, remove the pit, halve the halves, then, especially if the ripeness is good, you can easily peel the skin off the quarters. And it doesn't waste anything like scooping inevitably does to some degree. If the ripeness isn't right, the quarters are easier to scoop effectively. So, win-win.

Thank you for saving me all the typing.

And no one taught me this. After just trying to cut one once or twice this is super intuitive as the better way to do it.

Also once sliced try them with some oil and balsamic vinegar drizzled over, and some salt and pepper.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

Np. I wish I could take credit for thinking up this method myself, but a person who is otherwise douchey, taught me haha.

To clarify, do you mean the balsamic and salt and pepper is for taste (mouth watering as I think about it..) or does it also help with the peeling process?

[–] fitjazz@sh.itjust.works 7 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I have never had a problem with waste from scooping but I have the perfect size and shape spoons and I am also usually making guacamole so anything that might get left behind on the first scoop just gets scraped out anyway.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

When it peels cleanly off, that's ideal though. Easier too. I switched from your method to mine a decade ago

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I do peel them when I want to slice them very cleanly, but I quarter them first. If they're ripe you can peel the skin in one go.

[–] fitjazz@sh.itjust.works 10 points 9 hours ago

If I want slices I slice them before scooping and can then scoop out nice clean slices.

[–] metallic_substance@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

I had a roommate at one point who did this and who was also similarly blown away when I showed him the cut and remove the pit method. Also, he fucking refrigerated them

[–] Big_Boss_77@fedinsfw.app 34 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Is your partner a raccoon?

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 27 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

There's certainly commonalities, yes.

[–] Big_Boss_77@fedinsfw.app 16 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Ahhh... mine is the same way. I'd never seen bread opened from the side before we got together...

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago

Slices of bread that are see through on one end and could support a multi storey building on the other.

Sacrilege

Unless a hoagie roll and you're making a hoagie or cheesesteak.

The ragebait equivalent like someone taking a way uneven slice of pie or cake.

[–] Paddy_NI@lemmy.world 11 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Your partner is clearly a psychopath!

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 16 points 12 hours ago

My lawyers are advising me not to comment.

[–] viral.vegabond@piefed.social 9 points 12 hours ago (1 children)
[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 19 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

No. They have a partner who will eat literal trash to avoid food waste, and they know it.

[–] notabot@piefed.social 6 points 11 hours ago

See, they're just being nice and leaving you a little snack.

[–] mtpender@piefed.social 5 points 11 hours ago

No wonder our generation can't afford homes! /s

[–] oce@jlai.lu 3 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Are all the spoons dirty or something?
Also, are they eating avocado with butter?

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 4 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I think scooping it out with a butter knife might be a cultural thing, especially when the avocado is not super ripe.

And the butter was probably for a different sandwich.

[–] Alcoholicorn@mander.xyz 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Microwave it for like 15 seconds before scooping/scraping if its underripe

[–] zakobjoa@lemmy.world 8 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Next cultural thing: we don't have a microwave.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 hours ago

Huh. That's oldschool. 😄

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 1 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I eat almond puree with butter. It's tastier and you also eat a sugar topping (jam) with butter.

[–] oce@jlai.lu 5 points 10 hours ago

The notable difference with jam would be that avocado is already oily.

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

Does your partner hate doing dishes? Because I've done similar things to avoid using a plate.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

My partner does this too. As those bits are probably the best part, I grab a spoon and go to town.
