I see fruit labeled all the time as gluten free at grocery stores.

Fyi for those who don't know. Gluten is created from wheat.

[–] Katana314@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

It’s a valid statement, stupidly enough.

A family friend once had a gluten reaction from fruit. Turns out, the caterer presented it with a spray over them that makes them shinier - and that has gluten in it.

The spray also helps to maintain freshness longer, so it’s not just a “pretty fruit sells better” tactic. Though it should be stickered if it’s coated and that coating is wheat derived (not all are).

Avocado without an I.

Fun fact: in my native language the word for a pit (as in a hard central fruit seed) is directly translated as "little bone" so depending on who you ask, avocados indeed do have bones :3

[–] Allero@lemmy.today 4 points 4 hours ago

Same in Russian, and I believe this is the original source of confusion :)

In some languages, hard seeds and bones are described by related words

Kinda surprised people were saying "dead ass" in 2017. For some reason I thought that was more recent.

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Did you know that 2017 is closer to the fall of Troy than it is to today?

(Edit: I looked it up, and it seems that it isn't true)

[–] tja@sh.itjust.works 16 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (3 children)

[–] DonGirses@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

So then my bones are boneless bones because they don't have bones in them.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

But then how do your bones bone bonelessly?

[–] Grostleton@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 hours ago

They got a little blue pill for that

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 17 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Yes because they remove them!

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

Grape deboner, a thankless job... :(

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 6 points 16 hours ago

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 6 points 16 hours ago

The bones are the meme, but I want to know which branch of which tree in which orchard grew that seedless avocado. Because grafts.

[–] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I bet that'd feel better than a grapefruit.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 3 points 16 hours ago

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago
