That's just the nature of Lemmy. It was built by tankies for tankies, and so this reflects on the user base. The politics here is a bubble and it's inescapable, unfortunately that's just a part of the package. You just have to deal with unhinged, misinformed, and extreme takes all the time. There are tools and strategies that can help you reduce the amount, but you can't get rid of it. Lemmy doesn't have the user base of Reddit where you can find big and active communities for everything. Outside of politics, subpar memes, and some niche tech stuff, there really isn't much else. However, I still think it's worth it for the privacy alone.

I see some people below saying "curate your feed". But this isn't viable because:

• it takes too much effort, even for a statistically frequent user
• doesn't work when you're logged out
• and this is the most important part - I don't want to curate myself into an echo chamber.

The problem is with the user base. The user base is extremely susceptible to low effort rage baiting. It's full of immature kids and intellectually dishonest users.
