These are impossible to open without getting oily fingertips, it's a problem. Even when you use scissors to open them, it just gets on the scissors and then runs down the pack onto your fingers

[–] SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (3 children)

Hold the packet straight up and down from the top, cut the bottom with the scissors angled slightly downwards and let gravity assist rather than get in the way.

And if you’re really fancy, use the pot lid to squeegee it all out.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 23 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Fat-cats out there with their pot lids and I'm just happy mine has a handle.

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

look at fancypants over here with a fancy pot with a handle and everything

[–] AmyAye@nord.pub 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I'm over here using a microwave safe bowl.

[–] skankhunt42@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

A microwave AND a bowl? The rich really do live different lives.

[–] AmyAye@nord.pub 2 points 3 weeks ago

I didn't say anything about a microwave, just that the bowl could potentially be used in one.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

safe

rich bastard has a safe, I bet he's got more flavour packets innit!

[–] TheTechnician27@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

And then wipe off the scissors because they still got this shit all over their cutting edges.

[–] SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Stick the tines(?) in the pot to rinse most off the scissors!

[–] pmk@piefed.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago
[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

i'd rather poke with the fork or cut with the knife i am about to use, instead of adding the scissors to the dishwasher

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Sounds silly but some packets in the refrigerator. Push down on the side you want to cut to create a gap/bubble. The kecap manis is already super thick and the oil will be thick enough to be slower than the scissor blade. No mess with a little prep.

[–] darkevilmac@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I use nitrile gloves

Just the cost of doing business

[–] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

I use condoms. It's always good to have a few that are pre-lubed.

[–] Nolvamia@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

For some reason, the version I get is slightly different. Instead of chilli sauce I get fried shallots. Still get the segments with kecap manis and oil and spices. Holding the shallot end while cutting means no oily fingers. The other sachet, with the salt/seasoning, has a second segment with chilli powder.

Shall we start comparing how we prepare the deliciousness? First, fill the kettle and set it off. After dumping the package contents into a bowl, add half a cup (or more, if you have a big bowl) of frozen peas. Use your scissors to chop in a couple of fresh spring onions, two or three birdseye chillies, then add more fried shallots, chilli crisp and a good sprinkle of togarashi powder, throw in an ice cube portion of frozen lemon juice. About now the kettle should have boiled, so fill the bowl with hot water. Wait two minutes and dig in. Tasty meal in about five minutes with minimum dishes.

[–] guy_threepwood@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

No third sachet at all where I am. Just the oil and soy. I add my own chilli, but it would have been nice if it came with some.

[–] Hazmatastic@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Cut the oil one off to separate it, then just cut the corner off after mixing. 1 extra step but flawless every time

[–] Wisens@discuss.tchncs.de 27 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I guess I don't know. Of course I live in the middle of nowhere.

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 43 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

They sell these in the Asian aisle at all the grocery stores in my area. Worth a try if you haven't had them before (I prefer the spicy flavour)

[–] DannyMac@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'll have to give these a try! Looks like my Kroger has them for $4.49 for a 5 pack.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

They are amazing and will become a milestone that other instant noodles are compared to. It will not be the best noodles you have ever had but it is good enough that you will use them to judge others.

Mission achieved! I bought the chicken curry and the mei goreng flavors, but fecking surge pricing got me and the price went up 50 cents... Still cheaper than anyone else locally, sadly

[–] flamingo_pinyata@sopuli.xyz 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

These are so common where I live then I'm not aware of any other brands. I suppose some competition must exist.

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Lots of ‘em. Try the korean brands like nongshim, buldak, and ahri.

[–] usualsuspect191@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Sure, but do those other brands have the little multi-chamber packet like in OOPs example? Nongshim at least in my experience it's a couple of separate packets (one flavour powder, one with some dehydrated veggies for e.g.)

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Ah no, not all of them. Lucky Me pancit canton has the same type of condiment packet.

[–] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Over here there's a brand called mama that's found along with indomie in most stores. And a couple of local brands sell the same thing but much more expensive, presumably somebody buys that as well.

[–] thisbenzingring@lemmy.today 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

find an asian market, even middle of nowhere have them if you look. And start sampling the raman section

you will find it sooner or later

Sampling and Raman analysis are tasks I've been trained for, maybe I'll take a look at these stores.

sorry… have to steal tis pic…

[–] Dagobah@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

I knew I had arrived when I could finally add all of the chilli sauce sachet. I'm still riding that high ten years later.

[–] rem26_art@fedia.io 9 points 3 weeks ago

Indomie makes the world go round

[–] TheBlindPew@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 weeks ago (4 children)

Do y'all open it on the light or dark side of the Seasoning oil?

[–] HertzDentalBar@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 3 weeks ago

Massage it till flowing, snip off entire top and squidge it all in

[–] rustyricotta@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 3 weeks ago

I massage it to mix it up first.

[–] thirteene@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Push the dark up a bit and trim. Otherwise it gets stuck in the packet

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Press the packet against the bowl for a minute. The oil warms up and you can mix it together.

[–] tynansdtm@lemmy.ml 1 points 3 weeks ago

I dip mine in the water while the noodles cook.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 6 points 3 weeks ago

Look at Mr. Moneybags over here, flexing they can afford the good ramen.

[–] Klear@piefed.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

[–] Thurmyte@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

Have you had the bbq chicken one?? GODLIKE

[–] wador@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 weeks ago

Ah, those are the three bags you get in the sex book store.

[–] dan69@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

2 in the pink 1 in the stink - not sure what the noun is though.

[–] iusemybrain@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

zipties, cloth, and nap time!

[–] galoisghost@aussie.zone 1 points 3 weeks ago

The Aldi version with the washed out chilli sauce. I assume the other two are equally diluted but the packaging is opaque.
