Good mythical morning was never a good show. Rhett and Link are two of the worst examples of neurodivergence being repackaged as funny or quirky. Those two are both so disconnected from reality I'm honestly shocked there's not more industry gossip around working with them.

People who use doordash and food delivery apps extensively, without a disability, are some lazy ass people, who deserve the shitty experience and high price it costs. Just go fucking get it yourself if you want it hot and fresh and not thrown on the ground.

I wanted to downvote because I agree with you instinctively but this isn't unpopularopinions!

My neighbors are in twenties and for some reason, I'd get their delivery half of the time. Many of the places they order at is a 10-15 minute WALK. They're paying $10 more to avoid walking.

We need to bring back testing to vote. No, not the intentionally obtuse Jim Crow kind. Basic civics knowledge like what year it is, what are the branches of government, etc...

[–] nullspace@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

It's good in spirit, but "who won the 2020 election" would be the types of questions finding their way on there.

AOC is a spineless milquetoast establishment liberal who voted to continue arming Israel (or more accurately, voted against a measure to discontinue funding).

In 40 years, GenZ will be the new Boomers. They won't understand the new Generation D (for "dummy") that's too lazy to make their own bowl of cereal without a robot doing it for them. GenD will call GenZ out of touch because they choose to bathe themselves alone rather than shower with a bathing robot. GenZ will reminisce about the brief time they drove their own car, how this new generation just doesn't understand, and the few remaining GenX'ers will one-up them from the retirement home with talk about stick shifts. Oh, how that new lazy generation knows nothing about the hellscape of manually vacuuming the house. Or having a job. GenD will put down GenZ about not knowing how to live in a fully-automated world, while GenZ quips back about how they were the ones that built that fully-automated world. The big generational debate will be on whether or not to elect robots to Congress or just have AI run the country. And that GenD should liquidate and redistribute the wealth GenZ is hoarding. I hope I'm still around, and I hope there's popcorn!!! :-)

If you're looking for intelligent conversation with people in a niche community, you're better off looking on Reddit than Lemmy.

[–] VelvetPinkOtter123@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

my experience is that lemmy users are actually worse than reddit users, but there are less people here so you don't have to put up with as much stupid shit

I think the average reddit users is like 30, where the average lemmy user seems to be 15

That being said, I can stand to come here once every couple of days and browse for 15 minute

I rarely see anybody say anything of any intelligence while I'm here as it's just more of the same doomer bullshit I'd find everywhere else, but it's like 6 people saying it here instead of 1,000 saying it there

The reverence for artists in our society is way overdone. I’m not just talking about the Andy Worhols and Taylor Swifts that make WAY too much money for what they give to society. I’m talking about the every day artists. People are way too excited for people who make art as a career, and many of them who complain that they are underpaid are wrong. Art is a fun thing that everyone enjoys doing. Be grateful you are able to monetize it at all.

[–] bilb@lemmy.ml 2 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I know not everyone would agree with this, but I think art is an important part of society and failing to foster it leads to negative outcomes. Despite this, there is not always a "free market" purpose to sponsor artists. I think this has been acknowledged in the past and the gap has been filled by wealthy patronage and state sponsorship for the arts, but these sources of funding can have an outsized affect on the shape of the art it produces. I'm not sure I have a solution to that, outside of perhaps a universal basic income that allows people to pursue creative expression without fear of becoming destitute.

And I'm tempted to say "not everyone with a deviantart profile is contributing positively to the culture" but honestly, who am I to make that judgement?

All that said, yeah, I don't think we need to be reverent of individual artists any more than we should be for anyone else filling a role in society.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 1 points 5 hours ago

See I’d argue that the deviant artists prove my point. I know tons of people locally who create art and music for a net loss and do it for the love of the game, myself included. Its not as special or deserving of riches as most people make it out to be. In my opinion art should be community building primarily and culture enriching secondarily.

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

A good friend of mine is an artist... he studied pottery, has actual degrees in it. He's an incredible potter.

He and I get into heated arguments over what 'art' is, and who can be an 'artist'. I claim that an artist is anyone who declares themselves to be an artist, and art is anything an artist has created and has declared it as art. He claims that an artist is only someone who has dedicated time to studying the art and has put in many hours of practice, and art can only be created by a 'real' artist.

I concede that someone who has studied and practiced is much more likely to create good art, but even shitty art is still art.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 3 points 11 hours ago

I’d also argue that pottery is a mixture between art and trade though. You’re producing things people need and use, you’ve just added an artistic flare to it.

[–] JamesTBagg@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Picasso is a "real" artist and his work sucks. I'm pretty sure his work was and is just a vessel for money laundering.

I posted an unpopular opinion there and people just downvoted it and got mad, lol.

Basically I said that complaining about a paywalled article in comments is annoying and contributes nothing, especially if it's from an independent long form writer. If someone links to paid media and you don't want to pay, the post isn't for you. Just go away. (Or participate in the comments anyway, people don't read the articles most of the time regardless.)

Some people said "nooo if you make a post and I can't see the content without paying you're being a meanie because I can't participate"

Not every post is for everyone.

[–] nullspace@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

New social media idea: You can paywall your own comments.

America was a terrible hegemony but better than the alternatives, as we'll soon learn.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I mean its better except for every other first world country.

[–] spacegoat@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

It won’t be any of the first world countries that fill the power vacuum.

[–] CaptPretentious@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

People take the "extrovert" and "introvert" way to far. Instead of being an observation of behavior, they take it to extremes, try turning it into a "quirky" personality and then role-play it everywhere. All due to social media. They talk about it like people who believe in astrology talk about astrology. And then they pretend they're super happy, when they're actually miserable and depressed but refuse to think their "introvert" persona is the issue.

[–] EvasiveSpecies@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

Extrovert/Introvert have lost all meaning because people are equalizing extrovert with = loud chatty ADHD stereotype and introvert with = shy antisocial autism stereotype. It's also not useful to use these labels because MOST people aren't any of the extremes but in-between.
