Reading the comments in this thread makes it clear the news is still doing an amazing job of making everyone angry at anything but the real issues

Everyone in the original story was in the wrong, but Jesus are the comments here insane!

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 1 points 6 hours ago

But surely there must be some number of wrongs that make a right?

In many south-east Asian cultures it is taboo to touch a person's head, as this is considered the most sacred part of the body. Similarly it is taboo to point at or move something with the feet, since the feet are considered dirty.

Singapore is a country that prides itself on its multiculturalism with a mixture of primarily Chinese, Malay and Indian populations. Cultural norms are probably different among these different populations, but in a country like Singapore I would expect an elderly man to be aware of the taboo regardless of his cultural background.

You don't get a pass on assault if someone disrespects your horoscope bullshit though

[–] SarahValentine@pawb.social 13 points 2 days ago (16 children)

Don't touch random strangers in public, least of all their kids.

[–] nialv7@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (51 children)

wait, you think this assault was justified?

[–] mcv@lemmy.zip 0 points 6 hours ago

I don't think any of the events in the story or in response to the story were justified.

Both can be wrong.

Touching someone's head is very taboo in Asia...especially with the left hand.

I can't believe this is getting 15 downvotes. People are fucked in the head, and I bet the ones doing the downvoting would still get annoyed at being touched there.
