If I hear someone on the phone in a public restroom I try to rip ass as loud as possible.

I'm not stuck in here with you, you're stuck in here with me.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 28 points 1 month ago

Someone did that at a supermarket bathroom I was in!

The guy was yapping away on his phone. I was washing my hands being annoyed. And suddenly, one guy said, "Fuck it!" And just blasted a massive fart shit.

The guy on the phone went silent. And I couldn't help but laugh my ass off.

I mean I try not to in public but if someone else does it, it just about makes my day, farts are so funny

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

In public, the sounds are funny, the smells are not. In private, you do you.

[–] EmilieEasie@fedinsfw.app 5 points 1 month ago

Lol, I can usually escape public bathrooms quickly enough to not need to put up with much smell, but you're not wrong either!

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No, I'm never embarrassed by my singing.

[–] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago

Assapella rendition of hit songs?

[–] kdcd@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago

I have IBS so if I want to go anywhere I have to deal with the fact that I may end up making lots of noise in a public toilet. In my forties I’m pretty desensitized about it now. Everybody poops.

[–] akunohana@piefed.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Yes. I wonder, though, why? What conditioned me this way? Also, in some societies, such as Japan, concealing toilet sounds is encrouaged by those otohime devices in public bathrooms.

I think they're funny and I'm tired of pretending they're not.

[–] uberdroog@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I only shit at home or in the woods. I hate walking into a public restroom and knowing a microscopic piece of another mans colon is now in my nose.

[–] czl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago

Have I got news for you: a lot of microscopic other men’s colon has been in your nose even outside of the bathrooms.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

I feel like no longer caring if strangers can hear you poop is a big part of growing up. Not to say I've reached that point.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Everybody poops as they say. The bathroom is the socially acceptable place for farts imo.

[–] dregan@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago

Nobody poops but you.

[–] DJKJuicy@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago

I used to clench up in public bathrooms if there was anyone else in the bathroom.

Now I just let 'er rip. Even if I know it's gonna be loud and funky.

[–] AskewLord@piefed.social 7 points 1 month ago (4 children)

No. Nature isn't embarassing.

I have been embarrassed when I shat my pants from drinking too much though.

Not even a little.

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

No, that's how I assert dominance.

No, the sound of a bath being filled doesn’t bother me.

[–] Feathercrown@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

If anyone out there is self conscious about this, remember: you should only be embarrassed by sounds that come out of your mouth when in the bathroom. If you're grunting and sighing in the stall you need immediate medical attention or a gag. Pull it together

[–] blackbrook@mander.xyz 5 points 1 month ago (2 children)

People grunting in the stall next to me is definitely worse than poop and fart noises. I already know the mechanics of the situation, I don't want inklings of the personal narrative around it..

No. Y'all know what goes on in there. If you don't, you're the one who should be embarrassed.

Unpopular opinion: toilets are perfectly shaped to make farts as loud as possible.

Not an unpopular opinion but a scientific analysis of the toilet geometry.

Unfortunately in engineering the toiler, we had to decide whether to A) let the poop and pee be carried away easy, with the down-side of big echo, or B) Have no big echo, but the poop and pee isn't taken away easily. Now in most engineered products, we would find some sort of balance between the two, but obviously that wasn't appropriate here.

as for your question, i used to but now i don't. Worrying about that stuff just holds you back. I'm on that thing hunched over clutching my stomach screaming out "oh god... OH GOD it's unbearable, I'm dying!!" Just to assert dominance.

it helps that public bathrooms stalls are (usually) not see-thru so with the right timing you can be completely anonymous. It's elegant, like a masked ball.

[–] DudeWhoYapsTooMuch@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

I used too but I remember it’s the shit room. You better be grunting and farting

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 month ago

In the bathroom, no. Outside the bathroom, yes.

No, because I deploy The Cough of Obfuscation!

[–] mystrawberrymind@piefed.ca 4 points 1 month ago

Yeah. I tell my BF to go hang out in the living room or something. Like give me some privacy k? Ok thx😆👋

[–] amio@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

I think the, uh, acoustics, are mostly a necessary evil. The bowl has to accommodate a ton of water splashing around without going everywhere, and ideally also not go out of its way to trap any doodoo. That can't just be any old shape.

[–] Elting@piefed.social 4 points 1 month ago

I thought the whole point was to piss as loud as possible to assert dominance?

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Silent bathrooms are the fucking worst. When you go in, have to stand right next to some guy at a urinal, and you both can hear exactly how much piss is happening, or when it's not happening. Nothing shrivels up my bladders ability to expend faster than complete silence and the attention of a stranger.

Also once I was visiting a foreign country and found a girl on tinder, we were fuck buddies for the duration. She stayed over one night, and I had to shit in the morning. With her sitting on the bed quietly scrolling her phone like 5 feet away. It was awful. Felt like I couldn't fart, could barely get anything out, my diet had been bad so it was going to be a difficult poo anyway. It was awful.

But out in public, whenever I accidentally fart, or on purpose fart but I intended it to be silent, I just laugh immediately afterwards. If I think it's funny, then it's not awkward.
