Statement from Autistici/Inventati

[ENGLISH VERSION]

Today we were made aware that the US Government has targeted a small, volunteer-run, technology collective from Italy with disproportionate sanctions as anyone can read in the Treasury Department Statement, the State Department Statement and the related Executive Order.

We deny all allegations included in the statements, while we strongly affirm our dedication to providing a platform of tools for digital self-defense, addressing the need of free communication for activists and other individuals, groups and associations.

We will not back down, we will keep doing what we have been doing all these years and we will do whatever is in our possibility to counter the false allegations made by a politically desperate administration with the sole intention of swaying people and media attention away from their own violence and warmongering.

Antifascism and anticapitalism are not terrorism. Protesting is not terrorism. And everyone has the right to speak out and to struggle for humanity.

Collettivo Autistici / Inventati — “Socializzare saperi senza fondare poteri”

Stay human

"This is bizarre. What could possibly have set him off about Italian programmers?"

"I forgort that privacy is terrorism. Sometimes I like to pretend we aren't in clown world."

Anything that hides you from their eyes will eventually become banned and illegal

If there ever was going to be good advertising for A/I's services, it's this one. Good job Don Demente, as per usual!

(Speaking more seriously, how good are their offerings?)

Ya this seems kinda streissandish

[–] tar@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago

Seems pretty great to me. MSFT and friends must be unhappy Europe is slowly moving off US software.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I can’t reach that server from the USA. The Great American Firewall has begun. I hate this shitty country.

Whois still has the DNS record but it doesn't resolve for me either at this point. I can't resolve it using dns.leonet.it either so presumably the sanctions have taken effect and their internet service has been cut off.

Those are two separate things. European companies and governments move from Teams/OneDrive to Nextcloud, and stuff like that.

But autistici/inventati is intended for activists, not the general public, and as they mention not for companies either.

Our principles are fairly straightforward: the world should not be run on money, should be rooted in solidarity, community, mutual help, equal rights and freedom, and social justice.

That's not "Europe slowly moving off US software". Projects like these exist to protect against European state repression, as they exist to protect against any state repression, period. I'd also bet, that their thinking wasn't "we need a European alternative, so the USA can't spy on us". So yes, it's great, there are other projects similar to this one in other countries, as well, but your take doesn't make much sense.

This is your chance to fund a "terrorist" group.

[–] Johnny_Arson@hexbear.net 16 points 2 days ago

This will also be used as pretext to target anyone that donates in the us a member of an international terrorist organization and treat them as military enemy combatants, so careful with that.

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Bizarre, the link will just not load for me. Tried VPN, different DNS, no dice.

[–] e8d79@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 day ago

Looks like someone disabled their domain. https://www.inventati.org/ still works for now.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago

Can confirm that my ISP has blocked their website, Autistici's that is.

[–] Confused_Emus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 2 days ago (3 children)

including encrypted chats and email, web hosting, secure video conferencing and streaming, anonymity shields, and a suite of other technological tools…

I host stuff like this on my NAS. Am I a terrorist?!

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Soon, yes. They will make some law, that will force you to use either big tech's stuff or not use tech at all for "safety" reasons, or you get sent to Bobby's wellness camps for forced labor for big tech.

My personal conspiracy theory is that all the price hikes in PC components like RAM and GPUs are really just an effort to take computing power out of the hands of the people. The future we’re being steered towards is rental PCs and/or thin-client-like PCs with subscriptions to stuff like GeForce Now.

You are now

[–] Ildsaye@hexbear.net 9 points 2 days ago

If you don't own an Epstein island or work for ICE, you are probably a terrorist

[–] poolcritter@pawb.social 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

Couldnt infiltrate them, coudlnt coop them so they call them terrorists

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago

Take it as a badge of honor for the fascist losers in the US to name you a terrorist org.

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago

A lot of talk for the same group that hides the Epstein Files.
