Your lucky if they hang you Putin.

Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Unpopular opinion: We should offer all dictators and their friends a safe retirement package.
Cornered dictators are dangerous. They will always keep escalating because the alternative isn't just their neck on the block, it's all of their friends and family too.
Putin had that posibiblty by not doing what he did, giving this option to them mans they have no reason to not try this shit, I disagree fermly with this idea
I don't think most of them would do it if they had to give up their power and wealth.
I absolutely agree. What good is retribution, in the face of all the untold future injustices and suffering that could be prevented by allowing dictators and their ilk to simply... stop being dictators?
At the end of the day, "just desserts" really aren't all that they're cracked up to be. Tasty as they may be, they are just desserts. Have a strudel or a pudding instead.
Agree. We all hate Putin, but he is the only person with the power to stop the war.
tried that with Napoleon - didnt stick
he was exiled. not exactly chopped.
Yes but that was supposed to be the magnanimous and merciful "safe retirement package" as an alternative to certain death at the hands of an executioner. Exile wasn't a death sentence. Life definitely wouldn't have been easy, but he had servants who joined him in exile to help keep him alive and happy.
Instead, he found a way back to France and the first army that arrived to intercept him immediately put themselves under his command again. That's the danger of allowing warmongering dictators to have their cushy exit strategy - they may not see it as a way out of ultimate punishment, but as a reset button.
I'm less worried about that in this case. Napoleon was one of the greatest generals in human history, he was inspiring. Putin has been failing to conquer the poorest country in Europe for over four years.
With the frankly shocking number of Americans who espouse their unwavering support for Trump, no matter what he says or does, I have very little faith in humanity's collective ability to judge leaders objectively.
Holy whoosh batman.
Gotta chat with air traffic controllers for how much airspace there is between you and this comment chain.
I don't know man, this sounds good at first but think of how many thousands of lives would be saved if we let a handful of evil people go unpunished.
The most probable "punishment" that Putin is going to get at this rate is dying while sleeping without any pain.
I'm sure the Kyiv Post is a very reliable source of objective reporting on this matter.
where men have allegedly been detained on the streets and forcibly sent to fight in Ukraine
Huh, where else have I seen that?

One source said Putin believes ending the war without capturing at least all of the Donbas could threaten his survival.
Even if all of Donbas is captured, he had relegated all of Russia into irrelevance for generations to come. Russia will become a vassal to China. The future Russians will despise him for it. Putin may not personally care what people think of him, but he certainly cares what will happen to Russia's prestige.
Can we chip in to buy the rope
There's United24 for that, I think

I don't like Putin.
They will hang me
As they ought to
Is there a volunteer list of hangmen? I'd like to sign up.
I am fairly certain the line would be ridiculously long. Maybe they can implement a lottery system and use the proceeds to rebuild some of the economy?
