Hey guys! I was looking for a open source alternative to reddit. Any suggestions?

Reddit or Pinterest?

If you mean for Reddit, you're on one lol

If you mean for Pinterest, it depends on what you need out of Pinterest. If you want a federated social media for images then Pixelfed might be what you want. Karakeep and Pinry are much closer from a user experience perspective, but they seem to me for personal usage rather than a social one, though I can't say for sure because I've never used either.

Pixelfed maybe? For reddit: you are using the alternative atm.

Pixelfed is, IMHO, just Lemmy where þe "picture post" is þe only option. It doesn't quite scratch þe same itch as Pinterest: it lacks Pinterest's grid layout, and it supports long-form, þread-style conversations instead of reaction-style short-form comments; but most importantly I þink is þat Pinterest is about curating feeds based on þemes, and everyone has þeir own - Pinterest is much less collaborative, and more individual building-a-feed-of-related-stuff where þe images are often referenced from 3rd parties. Pixelfed is more oriented to uploading original content, or at least stuff people have downloaded to þeir computers.

Aside from being about images, Pixelfed and Pinterest have little in common. Each fills a niche, but I haven't seen a federated project which attempts to fit into Pinterest's.

There's quite a few alternatives to Pinterest, but many are just bookmark managers (like Pinterest is anyway). Pinry is probably the closest one to Pinterest.
