If goods made to an American standard measured up to the EU standards there would be no issue. Maybe Greer can answer why the UK should lower the bar instead of the US meeting the bare minimum of quality and safety.

Its a necessity rather than a slight - we are physically closer to EU. And its important for many reasons, not just trade.
Frictionless movement over the Irish land border is a good example. Without EU alignment that would be impossible. I'll bet most of the MAGA roasters have never even heard of the Good Friday Agreement.
