For now it’ll also include “AI”-assisted projects that haven't had at least two months of (public, verifiable) dev time behind them.

Title. I remember having a laptop with an intel iGPU and NVidia dGPU back in the day, and trying to use Linux on it was -- Yeah not really a thing. It meant spending a whole day trying to configure the driver, then you could do optirun command, but depending on the application, it didn't matter how hard you tried or how good you smelled, that shit just wouldn't work.

It's been a long long time. Gaming on Linux has gotten better and better, but I've been using AMD stuff exclusively since ~2018

Still, getting a laptop with an AMD dGPU is... Does anyone other than Framework even make them? Either way I tried and couldn't find any to buy in my country at all.

So I'm eyeing a laptop with an NVidia GPU and an Intel processor. .... But it worries me that I would buy it and find Linux doesn't work on it. I categorically refuse to use Windows on a personal machine ever again, so I'll just do without if NVidia+Linux is still as fuckt as it was back in the day.

In my current machines I use CachyOS, but yeah.

I'm running a 3080 nVidia with an AMD CPU on CachyOS and it has been a lot more stable than Windows 7 or 10 ever was.

I used to BSOD whenever nVidia didn't like control over the audio changing in Windows, never once happened on Linux.

I’m m running bazzite on an Alienware m15 laptop, with an i7 & a 1070ti. Works great, no issues at all. When my last machine died, I rolled the dice on an HP Envy refurb machine with an i9 and a 4070 Ti Super (cheapest I could find with 16gb vram). I daily drive LMDE on it, also works perfectly. This is a desktop though to be fair.

Bumblebee and BB switch are deprecated now. iGPU will default unless you run with primusrun.

You can also completely turn off the dGPU at the PCI bus to save power.

No idea.

But what you could do is buy the laptop, install Linux on it, troubleshoot it if there is any issue, and document the solution online in a blog/wiki post or YouTube video for others to see.

That could be your contribution to the community.

And I'd be about 9k units of currency poorer with no benefit to myself.

Thankfully the samesuch community has already answered my question.

Welcome to being a third world citizen, stranger :'3

Probly looks less scary if I say the converted USD amount is ~1760 -- But yeah not cheap at all lol

What is this bullshit? You say you use CachyOS on your current machineS (plural) and then post like you haven't touched Linux in a decade? You seriously ask if Linux would run on intel?!?!? Can't google laptop amd gpu? I just did and got 5 lines, not models, but entire lines, from different manufacturers.

Does being an ass to strangers give you joy? Does it provide you pleasure? Does it help you get over your trauma, whatever it is?

.... Also, clearly you don't know how to read.

Either way:

  • Google search has been utter and absolute garbage since AI Slop took over the world
  • If you'd actually read my post you'd know my bugbear is about hybrid NVidia GPUs on laptops. I'd love to get an all-AMD laptop, as both of my machines are desktops built entirely out of AMD hardware, and I know NVidia's infamy. But those are not available in my country.
