Since people are fairly familiar with Western artists, I'd like to mention Orange Range, an Okinawan Rock/Hop Hop band that was huge in the 2000s in Japan.

Some of you might know them because they did a bunch of anime/drama OPs, ads, and even did the official World Cup support song for team Japan (a huuuuge feat for a bunch of kids from Okinawa), but they were joking around how they still music from famous artists during an interview, and the haters just chewed them up. I personally like their music and their "stealing," is more like "parodying," imo.

Hanson. Their curse was that Mmmbop became THE hit early in their career. Their later stuff is in fact alright and with a lot more skill involved than a single repeated hook.

I've met so many people who hate Meatloaf. I think Bat out of Hell is a top 10 album.

I don't hate it, I just don't get it. Rock boomers always ranked it pretty high. The album art looks like the most killer metal album ever. And then I drop the needle for the first time and it's fuckin' showtunes.

That makes sense, because the music is repurposed from a musical that Meat and Steinman were writing.

The songs are good. The person was a POS that I'm glad is gone. Sadly. So many musicians of that era are maga turds.

I'm sure "most hated" has already been covered, so I'll go farther down the list and pick one that's a little hated and IMHO more than "not bad": Crash Test Dummies.

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm gets clowned on by people who remember it, but (1) it's pretty good, and (2) CTD's first three albums are full of super catchy folk-pop-rock with decent lyrics. Some of the third album, and then subsequent stuff gets deeper and deeper into Brad Roberts' then-current interests and generally doesn't grab me, but more power to him.

Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm itself was undoubtedly picked to be sonically polarizing and grab more attention than some of the slightly less "Crash Test Dummyish" tracks.

Ghost comes to mind. I’ve never had a problem with them and a lot of their songs I think are pretty good. Seems like they get shit on a lot though.

[–] Underage9625@piefed.zip 22 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I can’t listen to Ghost because someone said they sounded like Scooby-Doo chase music.

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

They're basically Dark ABBA

Why is this so accurate? (I like Abba)

I love Ghost’s image, genre and sound. My only complaint is all their songs started sounding the same when I tried to do a straight listen-through of their works.

Taylor Swift, the modern version. She used to be a genuinely talented singer songwriter but has gone way too far into the popstar life. I remember her playing solo songs on an acoustic guitar, and she was good.
