The Monkeys were disrespected for being a "fake band" by many but created some good music.
Lars Ulrich?
Probably overlooked him somewhere but I didn't see Ed Sheeran, I believe he's okay, a good songwriter and very talented musician. He might be hated because it's very poppy, but it's cringe to hate stuff for being popular/pop.
I think, for a certain mindset (mine), it has been difficult to match his appearance with his music, which is basically pop that tries to be a bit sexy. I have no problem with unconventional-looking artists (Frank Black, Thom Yorke, etc.), but they don't try to sound like players, as such, and I think that is where the disconnect is for me. I also do not enjoy his music, and I don't really thinks he has much to say lyrically. There's something unabashedly commercial about him that just irritates me.
That said he definitely has talent and i'm clearly not his demographic, so what do I know.
Justin Bieber. He can play like 5 instruments incredibly well. He didn't handle fame very well and they kinda forced him to be what he is.
He's like the dude version of Brittney. Like they even publicly sexualized him too it just looked a little different because he's male.
The Beatles are alright.
They just sound boring to younger people because they were so influential, their work got incorporated into all of pop music.
I don't personally hate them but my college roommate did because he thought they were boring.
Even if you don't grasp the context of the times, it's insane to call them "boring" unless they never listened past "A Hard Days Night" or "Help!"
Even those are only "boring" because they were so groundbreaking and influential
Right, they aren't boring by any means, it's just before they started getting really experimental.
Though they were smoking TONS of weed during Help! and you can def tell that something was different imo. Meeting with Bob Dylan fundamentally changed them.
Lars Ulrich of Metallica is I think the most hated metal musician today, with the Napster case and his recent performances which are way too snare-heavy if you ask me (some would use the word "lazy").
But the large majority of the metal scene acts as if he was the worst drummer ever, which is obviously not the case. If you go and listen to Metallica's 80s and early 90s stuff, including bootlegs of live performances, this drummer is more than capable, but he also invented a lot of fills and patterns that came to be used prominently by others, like Mike Portnoy.
So I'm not saying this in defense of the guy - don't know him personally - but that's a blatant case of people not listening with their ears if you ask me...
Nickelback hate was pretty bad but got better I feel. Animals is a banger.

Moby. Play is a great album and I play that shit at least once a year.
His ambient stuff is my happy place
That was the soundtrack to my uni years. It got old after a bit as it was pretty much ubiquitous, but I listened recently and really enjoyed it.
I remember my roommate said they should rename the album from 'Play' to 'Songs for Adverts', as it seemed like every commercial used a track from it at one point, which probably didn't help the overplayed criticism.
There's a fun heavyweights podcast episode about Moby's childhood friend who lent him the Folkways album boxed set, which Moby used to make Play, and never gave it back :p
Reminds me of when Bob Dylan was young and starting out, he was invited to a DJs house that had a bunch of hard to find albums and stole them, which basically shaped his taste in music.
Probably Nickelback. I'm no fan, but they seem to get the most hate of anyone just for being mediocre.
I suspect the real reason a lot of people hate them is because they have mastered the earworm. One line from any of their songs will ruin your day.
I did a studio session with them about 20 years ago, when they were still pretty popular and before they were widely considered to be a joke, but I was not a fan. When the studio I was working for called me to do the session, my wife said, “Watch - they will end up being really nice guys and you will end up liking them more because of it.” In reality, they were arrogant dickheads, and I hated them all the more ever since.

and like, they're not even that bad
Foo Fighters, for some reason, are fucking loved, and yet if you actually listen to their albums, they're just... meh
they got a few good songs and a lot of things I never want to hear again. and that's coming from someone whose favourite band was them for a very long time. not to mention they sound like shit live

Currently Imagine Dragons. But I remember when Nickleback also was the butt of many jokes despite not being a terrible band.
There’s hate for imagine dragons? Or is it just the same Nickelback “ok, but not exciting” hate?
It sure as hell feels like manufactured hate than real hate. With Nickleback, I only ever started seeing people making fun of them after an episode of South Park (iirc) made fun of them, which just made every one of those jokes posted by a user online seem like they just wanted to copy the show and get some laughs. It feels exactly the same when I see memes hating on Imagine Dragons.
Smash Mouth wound up getting overplayed with "All Star", but their debut Fush Yu Mang is excellent. Way better than you'd expect, and it's worth a listen if just for their first radio hit, "Walkin On The Sun".
That album definitely doesn't get enough credit. It's got some surprisingly heavy-hitting songs. Nervous in the Alley? The Fonz? Let's Rock?
It's crazy to me how many commercials used Walking on the Sun for the "So don't delay, act now, supplies are running out" line, considering the broader context of the song.
I was definitely too young to understand most of those songs as a kid.
