Once a user is out of the routine, they often don't come back. Weekly episode drops is what you should expect, just like traditional tv.
18 months is about the amount of time it takes me to forget most of the details of a show, and therefore any sense of personal investment in it.

As long as I hear about a second season, I'll watch if it's a show I liked. It can be years later. For instance, Party Down got a third season 13 years after season two.
