This is hilarious

How are people with stewardship over this many robots also the people who want them regulated? Hobbyist clubs or something?

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 33 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Because the top ai companies want to be able to write the legislation to their advantage to stifle competition, grandfather in bad shit they’ve been doing, to avoid payouts, and to ensure no startups can do what they did. Boom, the big few have a strangle hold and their economy has a chance at not collapsing, or at least they have a better shot at controlling it than if there’s more competition and someone else writing regulations.

Capitalism is fundamentally incompatible with democracy. If money is power, and it is, it supersedes democratic institutions and are therefore a system of government, not some neutral model of resource distribution.

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I’m not sure what your point is, everyone on this platform know all that.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

My bad I should definitely stop complaining about capitalism.

[–] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I mean, just tie the complaint well to the topic at hand and make it interesting, not the same old usual stuff. Engage people when you complain about it, that’s the secret.

I replied to another guy below perhaps it is more to your taste.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Thanks for keeping me in the loop.

Its not a given that money will supersede democratic institutions. If the population can't protect their institutions then the democracy has failed. Its a failure of civics more than a success of money.

It is, in my meaning, a given over time. What you are talking about is the democratic institutions defending themselves from capitalism by reigning it in.

Meaning, capitalism unfettered supersedes democracy. Over time.

Failure to address that problem is not a failure of democratic institutions as matter of moral failure, just that yes, if we allow capitalism to run unimpeded it will always lead to fascism. Democracy can but try to save itself but while it is contingent on a moral and equitable basis of government, capitalism is just a cancer that promotes private power over collective, by the nature of its beast. And it is very alluring because not only does it reward you with riches and comforts, it also suggests a moral incentive, in which if you are successful within the system you are judged as a moral person as well.

That's gamified immorality.

[–] Fizz@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 month ago

Saying "capitalism unfettered supersedes democracy" is completely meaningless. Anything unfettered supersedes democracy if democratic institutions do nothing. An unfettered military leads to a military dictatorship, unfettered religion leads to a theocracy, and an unfettered state bureaucracy leads to authoritarianism. The entire point of a constitutional democracy is that no power is left unfettered.

In reality, almost no capitalist country on earth allows capital to run completely unchecked.

That makes sense. This felt calculated.

This generation of robots are like cnc machines, executing instructions like machines. We want to regulate the future generation of robots that will have decision making abilities.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago (2 children)

God, this happened in Animatrix.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Welcome to the second renaissance :O

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

"In the beginning, there was man. And for a time, it was good. But humanity's so-called civil societies soon fell victim to vanity and corruption. Then man made the machine in his own likeness. Thus did man become the architect of his own demise."

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

We need to design robots with only one leg.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

You made me snortle.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Man and his own demise.

Name a more iconic duo.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Be happy if it stops here, everything after is well... batteries.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Should have kept the original compute purpose!

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 3 points 1 month ago

Tech bros would side with Zero One.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 1 points 1 month ago

With the staggering amount of the population affected by brainrot it's a redundant purpose.

[–] hash@slrpnk.net 15 points 1 month ago

"WE WANT SAFETY! WE WANT TRUST! WE WANT ... regulatory capture for our manufacturers.

This is so very fucked up, just at face value.

The robots make a great point though! I'd rather vote Robot than the religious conservative hard right in Poland.

At least the robots understand logic.

[–] CareHare@sh.itjust.works 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh right, like how Grok understands logic?

Joking aside religious conservatives IMO should never govern because of separation of state and church, just my two cents.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

No argument there.

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Now we just have to wait for one of them to kill it's owner because it doesn't want to be destroyed for an upgraded model.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

They can't. That would break the first, second, and possibly third laws of robotics.

They were told the three first laws of robotics, right?

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They don't want you to know this, but robots are free if you stick them in a big copper mesh bag and toss them into your trunk.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Robots hate this one trick

How much copper is in one of those bad boys anyway?

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Woke tinskins
