Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Behold, one of the best purchases I have ever made:

It weighs like 3kg so you can even pull off some tape with just one hand

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 3 points 7 hours ago

So…. They’re not supposed to be funny anymore?

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 10 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Pro-tip: leave a courtesy tab when you finish with tape. Just fold the end over on itself. You’ll thank yourself next time.

[–] FuyuhikoDate@feddit.org 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

The problem with that, is to cut thr tape in a easy that it doesn't immediately goes back on the roll... I hate those rolls...

[–] baggins@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago

Pinch it before cut

[–] ieightpi@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

I hate how real this is

[–] username_1@discuss.tchncs.de 82 points 17 hours ago (5 children)

Because after the usage you should fold the edge on itself, not stick it as it is.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 17 points 16 hours ago

What happens to me is I have it in a dispenser where it holds the part out after the cutter, which works 90% of the time. Then occasionally I fumble it, knocking it off the placeholder and it ends up flat.

Maybe I should just pull a little extra out and fold it....

[–] CentipedeFarrier@piefed.social 4 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Not that this isn’t objectively correct, it is. And yet..

I live alone, nobody messes with my tape. AND YET, whenever I need tape, no matter how hard I struge to always leave my tape in good condition, SOMEHOW the fay or gremlins always get at it and mess it up. Always. And so I spend time and energy to … goddamnit it ripped again!

One time, the fold-over section just flat-out disintegrated. I mean.. I try. Really really I try.

Use scissors! Get into the habit of always cutting the tape. It may take extra time at first, but in the long run will save you lots and lots of time and headache!

Source: used it when I worked as a cook and now use it at home.

Beat me to it. It was a trick I learned online from a professional gaffer showing how he puts tabs on all of his tape. The second best option for if you don't want to waste tape or have these tags on everything you tape is to use the plastic or paper tabs they use on bread and when you finish off the tape leave a little extra and then stick the bread tabs to it because then you can just peal off the tabs and the tape will be still sticky.

That's all well and good until you live with other people.

I use a paperclip on the edge now. Solves the problem

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 13 points 17 hours ago

I had a roll of tape once where the thickness varied to form grooves so it always tore straight pieces, was kind of cool.

Pro-tip: Invest in a pistol grip dispenser guns, cheap ones start at like $10 and pay for themselves in saved anger quite rapidly.

No matter how rarely you think you’d use it - it’s worth it.

[–] OddBob212@lemmy.world 7 points 11 hours ago

I use those tape guns at my job all the time. They still piss me off frequently.

extra thin~~k~~ tape can fuck right off

[–] scottmeme@sh.itjust.works 16 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I hate when my tape thinks too much

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago

yeah, me too

[–] InnerScientist@lemmy.world 8 points 16 hours ago

Stop edging it and actually get it off.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 4 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

After a few years the tape starts to melt into the layer below

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (2 children)

I used to have some 3M shit from the 80s. It was duct tape but on steroids. A visibly thick layer of adhesive, roughly cut fabric base with some of that military green vinyl coating. Everyone called it EB green because it was mostly from Electric Boat in Connecticut. After like 5 years that thing was just a semi round blob of carpet, sheetrock paper and basically anything else it touched in it's life. Skin would lose to this shit quite often. It became one with itself and everything it came in contact with.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 4 points 12 hours ago

the everything bagel lives!

[–] Hansae@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 12 hours ago

Sniper tape?

[–] BeMoreCareful@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

The post office somehow sells the best clear tape in my country

[–] antianarchist@sopuli.xyz 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Just use your fingernail to feel the edge. Don’t try to find it with your eyes.

Yea I don't have this problem, also makes it clear which direction the tape is going.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 2 points 15 hours ago

Skill issue.

[–] StellarExtract@lemmy.zip 2 points 17 hours ago

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world -3 points 13 hours ago

y'all realize they mark the edge of the tape with a line on the inside of the roll, right?
