Sometimes it gets lonely, my stomach ache. I just need a short conversation; "hi, I am from here, I like this and.that" and then never chat again.

I need it because I am 24/7 in an apartment, and I have a lot of stress. You sometimes just need to chat or listen to them.

He asks on a platform where you can do just that…

This is more of a game where people pretend to be AI. But it’s light, and funny, and you know it’s a person

Didn't Omegle die? Or ensshittify. Nowadays, when I hear about people finding strangers to talk to on the internet, it's usually vr chat.

It was killed by a lawsuit and media campaign

There's a user on Lemmy (I forget what instance and the name of the user/comm escapes me right now) but they just blog on their own comm, which shares their name IIRC, and anyone can reply to them. I've replied a couple times and they don't always respond (and I wouldn't expect them to; I don't respond to a lot of replies to me), but when they do, it's usually a pleasant experience.

You might be wondering how you get subscribers. A lot of us just browse /all, so we see everything. (I've since learned how to hide NSFW comms/posts and that's made my experience better. YMMV. I wish I could still see NSFW discussions; I just don't need to see porn of girls who look 15, and guys who try to get other guys to look at their junk — it's usually one or the other, and neither appeals to me at all. So not everything.)

Where does one go for the nsfw conversations on here? I miss the thirst and fanfic from ARAD sometimes lol. Three last time I checked, the nsfw lemmy server was in read only mode.

You might be thinking of /u/bitofarambler@crazypeople.online, if interesting travel posts are what you had in mind

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 9 hours ago

No, the one I'm thinking of has a shorter name than that, but I'm sure there are lots of good examples.

The game VR chat, is you have a decent computer. Doesn't need to be a full on gaming PC and you don't need a VR headset. I started playing on my basic laptop I used during college. It had 16g of ram, and I don't remember the processor but it didn't have a problem with VR chat, when it could really run Skyrim for example.

Really fun game to meet people all over the world. There's a lot of people and kids goofing off on there too, but I've had a lot of genuine and nice convos and connections too, especially during the pandemic

How about making an account on a social media, like mastodon or frendica.world, and mkae posts kind of talk into the void? I used to do that, helps a bit

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 6 points 14 hours ago

Ya i do that on mastodon! Its fun actually. Its slower at first but you gain followers and find people you like. Its not really chatting though.

OP may I recommend finding an IRC chat? Find a community you like and pop on there. Also less chances its a bot you're talking to.
