Barnet Council will not remove a controversial parklet in Hendon – despite opposition claims the move is “a no-brainer”.

The decision to allow the renewal of a licence for the space at 134 Brent Street came during a cabinet member on Tuesday.

Doubt the actual locals hate it instead of other little bourgeois that work close and have less space to park their personal property on public space

Maybe a decade ago ago I lived in a small town where the local chamber of commerce worked with the city to fight against the opening of a restaurant catering to a foreign ethnicity in a prime location on main street. This reminds me of that.

Edit: Found this photo online, looks pretty popular despite what the counselor states.

a restaurant catering to a foreign ethnicity

And it's just a little pita shop? Lmao holy shit I hope your idea of "maybe a decade ago" is 1982

It was around 2018, in Canada, and wasn't a pita shop.

This is does not cater to Greeks any more than Panda Express etc

Wow. People "standing around" is not antisocial behavior. Gathering is social behavior! The petty bourgeois complainers and people who feel entitled to park anywhere and everywhere are the ones who are actually engaging in antisocial behavior.

Explaining his view, Cllr Prager pointed to a “huge increase in demand” for parking bays, partly fuelled by residential developments nearby.

A the ol' "we need more parking for all the foot traffic, let's get rid of the reason people travel on foot" plan lol.

Even funnier is that getting rid of this will open up a whopping 3 slots of parking space.

[–] Jiral@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Yeah, but all the people calling for that believe it will be their parking space.

This is the kind of thing that conservatives want their councilors doing? Running around for a literal year desperately trying to gather enough signatures from the small minority of residents who want to strip their high street of pedestrian and leisure accommodations? That is so sad, what a waste of a human being, what a waste of a council seat.
