Why'd he have a Super Nintendo mouse but not the system, no games, nor anything else related?

Nobody will actually ask that, though. Because nobody would assume it was anything other than an old-school computer mouse with an obsolete connector. And even if they did recognize what it was, nobody would think twice about how odd it is to have that, and only that. The only strange thing, maybe, is that it's stored with my keepsakes and not the rest of my obsolete tech, various cords, & connectors.

But the answer is: When I went away to college, I didn't take my video game stuff with me. My cousins asked to use my SNES and games, so I gave them permission while I was away. They grabbed everything except the mouse. At some point, they decided to sell my stuff to help purchase their Playstation, so I never got my SNES or games back. Then when my parents lost their house to foreclosure a few years later, they packed my things into a box, and gave it to me. I've held onto it for all these decades.

I have a cursed mouse.

Not like a taxidermied mouse, but a cursed computer mouse.

It looks and functions like a normal wireless mouse... Until you get to a page where there is horizontal scrolling capability. Instantly, the mouse will scroll the page all the way to the right. This is especially fun in spreadsheets. The mouse will do this even if it is turned off. The problem is really the wireless reciver, not the actually mouse, but it is still a fun cursed object that I hope to someday unleash on some unsuspecting sibling.

[–] orenj@leminal.space 2 points 1 day ago

Didnt know I needed an accursed taxidermized mouse until now...

[–] Pipea@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Probably my 2lb jar of mercury. Have fun disposing of that toxic waste!

[–] uncooked24@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 day ago

My family would put it in a trash bag and call it household waste.

[–] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

While I will undoubtedly leave behind a lot of weird things, I don't think anyone who knew me would be that shocked by anything I left behind.

[–] Toasticus@piefed.social 9 points 1 day ago

This is why I'm making sure to destroy my PC. Closeted fetishes, Rule34 stuff, SecondLife sex imagery and things I've done with people on there .etc

Everything in my physical possessions would not give off anything, but anything found on my PC would.

[–] Bruncvik@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago (2 children)

My Zip discs. Kids today barely recognise floppies; they'd be completely stumped with those fat floppies that don't seem to fit anywhere.

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 hours ago

Zip disks are.practically common compared to ls120

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 9 points 2 days ago

Kids on finding your floppies: Why do you have save icons?

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (1 children)

probably the zombie porn.

yeah... that or the Dino porn.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Thats a vanilla collection

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

what can I say, I'm a man of simple tastes.

[–] Aneb@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

What can I say, I'm a man of niche and geo restricted porn. I have a small collection that I'm trying to broadcast. I saw stache but they dont allaw multi users. Should I just spin up a jellyfin instance and host people and media there?

The later is a question for lemmings ty!

[–] BigPotato@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Everything is explainable to people who know me, sadly but - for the sake of the prompt - let's just say they pull random people in off the street for some reason. Is it the eeePC that's weird? The four PlayStations and one PSOne with a Japanese copy of the game of life with controller? The piles of cardboard and boxes in the garage, some of which are cut into shapes that may eventually turn into a cardboard 1/10 scale truck? The medical tubing and zip ties?

No, I'm willing to be the most unexplainable thing to strangers would be...

Two copies of Catherine: Full Body on the Switch, still sealed in their packaging. I've got a bunch of Switch games so at first glance finding a Switch game isn't so weird but why two? And why are they both unopened?

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

An outlet with a timer set on it I would say. I have portable solar panels and grow ligts too.

[–] fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago

Unfinished projects. It's amazing how hard it can be for someone else to see the vision on something until it reaches a certain point.

Also my second knife I forged, the first one being a beautiful bowie that sold at a charity auction the second being a crusty shank with an unpolished metal tang loop around as the handle.

Everyone always laughs when I say "sure I have a knife" for something and break it out.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

My smooth pocket stone.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Toss-up between the gen 1 computer heatsink and the Traveller in a jar.

[–] Lokoschade@feddit.org 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have a plushie Yoshi amiibo from Yoshi's Woolly World, and I've stuck every whisker I've found from my cats into its head, so now it looks like one of those troll dolls.

[–] Tinks@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I have this same plushie and am horrified by this image

[–] Lokoschade@feddit.org 32 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

It only gets ~~worse~~ better with time. This is what yours could become.

[–] dwemthy@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

That's incredible!

[–] orenj@leminal.space 1 points 1 day ago

The weirdass cat plush that arrives months after I die. It has a gun

[–] TheHotze@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I have a box of "crafting ingredients" in my closet. It is full of buttons, aluminum scales, wire, leather cord, thread, random electrical components, ect...

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 63 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I have four big black bins in my closet, full of… adult stuff I think those would definitely qualify. Maybe the foxtails, or my hot pink bunny mask, I’ve got a bunch of weird costumes that would raise eyebrows

Nothing, but just because my weird things are already out in plain view. They aren't shameful secrets. They're just my things.

[–] vk8kv@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 day ago

This! People hide their interests cuz "they are weird" or "I don't want my friends to know about this", its just your interests the people who support stay that's all 🤷‍♂️

[–] FRYD@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Aside from adult items, it would be my collection of 400 keys all on a bunch of different connected key rings or maybe my rum bottle full of used needles.

[–] Krzd@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why the FUCK do you have a bottle full of used needles‽‽‽

[–] FRYD@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why would I buy an actual sharps container? I gotta take weekly injections.

[–] Krzd@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Tbh you're some guy on the internet, so anything's possible ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But yeah that makes sense, I also kept the boxes from my meds as a 'memorial' of sorts.

[–] FRYD@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

It’s not a memorial lol. I’m actively using it. I just know that it would be strange to find.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

rum bottle full of used needles.

well, yeah... that'd would be.... a biohazard to cherish lol

[–] webghost0101@sopuli.xyz 47 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (7 children)

Honestly, my network and server.

I am self learned so i often come up with my own creative solutions instead of knowing about a common standard. I can’t imagine anyone but me could maintain it.

In a previous iteration of my server i bent over backwards to make sure /home did not contain any user folders and instead only the mount points to numerous drives. Why? Inexplicably even if you do consider autism.

[–] njordomir@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

My first home server did something like this. I didn't understand permissions very well yet (still not 100%, but certainly much more capable now). I think I used /var and maybe /etc to hold my docker compose folders.

I have a ton of unique 3d printed firearms. They are legal for me to make and own where I live, but I can't legally sell them or give them away so they have just accumulated over the years haha

[–] NycterVyvver@fedinsfw.app 29 points 3 days ago

I'm the guy in the office people come to when they need something. Ibuprofen? Got it. Superglue? Got it. Change for the vending machine? Yup. I keep the change in an envelope I've labeled "petty cash". Inside that envelope , I have a smaller envelope that I've labeled "mad money". I have about $27 worth of Monopoly money in that one.
