My boyfriend is a teen librarian. He mentioned Percy Jackson and Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend, which is supposedly like Harry Potter. There were others but cannot remember.
Animorphs. Loved those books as a kid and revisited them as an adult, and forgot how dark they got. Child soldiers, war crimes, the horrors of losing yourself to the hive mind or being forced into the body of a small animal (not talking about Tobias here).
Plus the books are also about friendship, which many youths want to see more of than romance.
Definitely books that turned people into furries. They still write those??
While it wasn't the tipping point for me, it definitely started the process

At one point, Jason's entire family is Yeerks, and he knows it. I think his mom was a Visser. They try to infect him, but he manages to get rid of the Yeerk somehow. He goes back to live with his infected family and pretends to be infected too so he can spy on the Visser possessing his mom.
Do you mean Marco or Jake? Marco’s mom was a visser, Jake’s brother was a controller

They're definitely for the younger side, but I remember the how to train your dragon books being pretty good. Almost completely different from the movies though
The children in my life scroll a device and fight tooth and nail against reading anything.

I've been thinking about this series the past week, ever since I started playing Moss. Weird that it popped up here as well
Tastes are more diverse than ever. A lot that I speak with read maga, one piece berserk and webcomics. All the YA classics Percy Jackson, hunger games, harry potter. Lots of classic lit, philosophy.
I recently read this is how you lose the time war and it was a beautiful book. The lady who co wrote it is an amazing writer. Her book the river has roots is also a wholesome little story.
Warrior Cats
Prob webtoons/vertical strips in general, im suprised the ipad generation isn't more into regular comics, maybe more ipods and handed down phones
Mine really liked the warrior cats books and some Stephen King.
Rick Riordan has been pretty popular lately.

Yeah, "young people" could be anywhere from picture-book-reading pre-literate kids to middle-aged adults, based on missing context.

My kids liked the Warrior Cats series and Hearts of Fire, which is dragons.
None, in many cases. (Including yours truly. I just read shorter form content like news articles and Lemmy)
