NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious. Olah’s team then privately lobbied the pope’s advisers “to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously.” Pope Leo XIV held firm. For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing.

I would give almost anything to have been in the room to watch the guy whose job it was to convince a Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas graduate that his boss has successfully matched God and created a soul.

"Grazie for the dinner Msr. Olah. We shall carry your words to his Holiness." (writes HERETIC in all caps on Vatican stationary, seals it in an ivory white envelope, hands it off to the nearest assistant)

I'm glad they're taking this stance, but idk how I feel about alliance between them and artists, i guess it worked out ok during the renaissance?

He should commission a copy of The Last Supper but it's the apostles' fursonas

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 25 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If they did that during the actual renaissance the various commissioned painters would be falling over themselves trying to paint Judas as a snake

I started imagining centuries of Christians painting arms on Snake Judas to depict him accepting the 40 silver and then Leonardo DaVinci paints Judas holding the bag with his snake tail and the scandal/eureka moment schisms the church

Take note of "Jesus'" feet in these paintings. In the original, they are not present, as a door was installed in that location centuries after the work was completed. As such, any reproduction will have to either include a blank space for the door, as shown in the second image, or reconstruct his feet from the authors vision, as was done in the first image.

At this point, being a successful artist requires figuring out which group of powerful pedos you sell your soul to.

Actually though. Some things never change.

Maybe the real reason LLMs hallucinate and fail in unexpected ways is because this is a Tower of Babel situation and God is scrambling their algorithms to punish them for their hubris.

what this means in the long run is that capital will start to favor flavors of (heretical) christianity that accept AI shit
