Omfg just talk to your kids and fucking be a parent. It's not that hard. Fucking puritanical shitlords.

[–] 0x0@infosec.pub 25 points 2 days ago

These laws have nothing to do with children but on paper..

The last time I checked, no person under the age of 18 can purchase internet access from an ISP. An adult has to enter a contract before a single byte can be transferred across the internet. All the content you see online was put there by an adult, or the responsibility of an adult. The internet itself is already an age gate.

This shit is like a nightclub sueing the government to have the bus driver check id's

FBI surveillance van

As we’ve said time and time again: the internet will always route around censorship.

Of course it will. I don’t understand why Utah thinks they can censor content when countries like North Korea and China demonstrate that a circumvention is always found.

One of the original design considerations for what became the internet was that it should be able to automatically route around outages and allow communications to still get through, even if many of its nodes were taken out by nuclear war.

Finding a way to get around blockages is practically what the internet was designed to do.

Believe me, I’m old enough to know that very well. I’m more flabbergasted that state lawmakers in Utah have the audacity to believe they can accomplish what a totalitarian state can’t.

Have you been to Utah. They started out as a totalitarian state, were forced to integrate, but long to return to their roots.

[–] iltoroargento@startrek.website 16 points 2 days ago

Honestly, they did not integrate very far. Obligatory fuck Mormonism.

I use VPNs when I'm in China just to download anime, grim.

More like *that empowers the surveillance state.

Honestly, I have nothing against age restricted spaces (within reason). When a bouncer checks your ID at a bar, they historically haven't been logging that interaction. Its not used to track your movement, reported to your health insurance company, etc...

If you assigned the death penalty to CEOs who store or sell verification information I could maybe be talked into providing my ID to an online company.

[–] popekingjoe@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

[–] AdamBomb@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Aylo’s lawsuit does not challenge SB 73’s provision prohibiting the websites covered by the law from sharing information about VPNs.

Well, somebody should challenge that as well. Seems like a clear-cut 1st amendment violation to me.

[–] p03locke@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

I think that's why it was pointed out.

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 2 days ago

But Jesus told them to pass the law.
