Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. (If you're only using an excerpt from an article that's otherwise not about LAMF, you can use the quote in the title.) Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.

Canadian farmer Arend Feenstra, who moved to Russia through a streamlined immigration program for citizens of “unfriendly” countries who share “traditional values,” has complained that he cannot get a permanent residence permit. The news outlet Nizhny Novgorod Onlain drew attention to his YouTube video.

Feenstra received a three-year temporary residence permit in Russia’s Nizhny Novgorod region in early 2025. He then brought his wife and eight children to Russia and began farming.

But Feenstra has now learned that to replace his temporary residence permit with a permanent one, he must sign a contract with Russia’s Defense Ministry.

Fucking hilarious, I hope we dont accept him back, when his permit expires

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 16 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Enjoy living in the airport with your wife and 8 children, shitstain. Hope it was worth it.

I understand what it’s for and why [the authorities] want you to sign it.

I’d rather take my chances in Canada, though I think living there is risky too.

Last I checked, as a Canadian the only military defence contract I had to sign was when I voluntarily joined the armed forces, not just existing as a Canadian.

These people cannot be this stu....No.. No they are this fucking stupid. They are stupid, dumb mother fuckers.

The only ones I feel sorry for, would be his young children

[–] CedricWhaley@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Also, AFAIK Canada isn't actively trying to invade any of their neighbors.

[–] Nomecks@lemmy.ca 2 points 10 hours ago

But in Canada they're trying to make non-family farm workers eligible for worker's compensation. The horror!

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Well I feel bad for the eight children. Enjoy being fodder and not at a farm.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

Now if only a few hundred US MAGAts would follow his example

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 17 points 19 hours ago (2 children)

As a Canadian, I truly hope that others like him follow his example.

We don't need their kind around here.

I truly hope that others like him follow his example.

let them leave, don't let them come back

[–] TrackenDaKracken@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago

Good to know. Because, I was just about to move there. I hear Siberia is lovely in the winter. Also, I was promised a free trip to Ukraine. Two countries for one price, what a deal!

[–] Gaslov@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago

The most unbelievable part of this whole story is that someone would admit to their mistake.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The "traditional values" of heavy drinking and autocracy?

But they have shopping carts that can go up escalators.

The only way to guarantee citizenship is to enlist? Sounds familiar..

[–] Lyrl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 13 hours ago

Is sadly better in that respect than the US, where we require complicated paperwork to gain citizenship through military service, and deport those veterans who make errors or miss paperwork deadlines.

the idiot also likely doesnt want to learn Russian, which is required if you want to surive in russia.

[–] mobyduck648@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Fucking hell, getting some language skills would be the sole upside of this entire idiotic affair.

Russian is a legit language of world literature, which would be useful since his life will probably contain suffering comparable to Dostoyevsky's characters.

[–] kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh yeah. Been following this guy for the schadenfreude for awhile. When he first moved there he was surprised that workers at the random Russian bank he went to didn’t speak English. Dude is so fucking stupid

[–] hunnybubny@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Russia that is known for systematic erasure of culture through resettlement and enforcement of their langauge, has very little people speaking English? You serious?!

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Yeah, but do you not understand how bad Canada is? I had to pay taxes last year! If I didn't pay them they'd come to my house and... Sorry what? Just deliver a letter that says I owe taxes? Not armed police?

Fuck that! Anyway, they'll send you threatening letters that demand you owe them money! And after I refuse that they'll send the cops and... Oh, they'll just charge interest to what you owe? And if you still don't pay it immediately they don't really care? Um....

Yeah! So that's why I moved my family of 10 to Russia, so we didn't have to deal with the fascistic theft of money like Canada!

Thinking that Russia, a country with the highest rate of HIV, abortion, CSAM, child prostitution, and drug use has traditional values is proof that online propaganda works.

[–] BauerBender@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Traditional conservative values.

[–] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Yeah, but they mentioned aborti.....

Wait, their abortion is the only moral abortion. Nevermind.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 7 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

CSAM, child prostitution

Glances at news

My guy I think those ARE the traditional values they want.

The fact the media calls children who are raped "Boys" and "Young women" is all you need to know. It's never "little girls" who are assaulted, it's "young women"

[–] coriza@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Yeah but they don't like "the gays" so it evens out I guess.

I didn’t come here to sign a contract. I’d rather take my chances in Canada, though I think living there is risky too.

You'd have to watch Canadian society treat people you hate with respect. The horror.

Thoughts as I was reading this:

He then brought his wife and eight children…

This is not someone who should be taken seriously. Not normal.

He also said his family no longer recommends that other foreigners move to Russia because the authorities keep changing the rules and “there’s no way forward.”

Haha, loser. Imagine finding out in 2026 that the Russian state is corrupt.

Since November 2025, foreign men ages 18 to 65 who are deemed fit for military service have been required to sign a contract with the Defense Ministry to obtain a permanent residence permit in Russia. People who moved to Russia through the “traditional values” program are not exempt from this requirement.

Go get killed for the state, moron. Why do you think they let you in? Because they're nice and friendly? They need cannon fodder, you dolt.

I thought one of the "traditional values" these guys love is men being protectors? So he should be thrilled to serve in the military to "defend" his family and the "traditional values" he loves so much
