Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

I've been tracking my drinks for 2 years, first time I reach such a sober streak - and I feel really better!

Absolute legend. Going to show this to someone in my life who has been struggling to quit.

Congrats man.

Some personal updatesI don't plan on completely quitting alcohol, but have managed to tone it down quite a lot. I now only drink on the weekends, only in the evenings, and up to 2 drinks.

Also, it's been about 7 months of no smoking for me. (I do use some nicotine pouches every once in a while though.)

Well done! You should be very proud ❤️

[–] Ertain@feddit.online 8 points 3 days ago

Keep up the good work.

Congrats my internet friend! That's no small achievement!

Great work! Congratulations!

[–] quill7513@anarchist.nexus 6 points 3 days ago

Oh that's a rad mapping tool! I just quit cold turkey in 2018. I wonder how things would have been different if I'd done it this way.

Great job! You should be really proud of yourself. It takes a lot of resolve to make better decisions for yourself especially when there's so much external pressure to participate in things that you've demonstrated are bad for you

I am glad you are free to do what you want with your own body. I will get to be free to choose for myself one day when the drug war ends.

Buen trabajo!

[–] Bluewing@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Keep it up! I'm pulling for you!

[–] melisdrawing@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago

Incredible progress, internet friend! You can do this. IWNDWYT!

[–] BarnWolf@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Great job! It only gets easier. I would have called myself an alcoholic when younger. But after not a drop in 3 yrs now, and only once in a blue moon 3 yrs before that, I don't even think about it any more. It gets old, boring and pointless at some point. For a lot of us anyways. Congrats on the sobriety! It's worth it.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 3 days ago

Not sure if it helps, but from one Internet stranger to another: massive congrats

I grew up around someone who tried, and couldn't. And I know how it ended

It's hard, but worth it

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Congrats! I stopped drinking two years ago, and I don't miss it at all. IWNDWYT 😊

You should post this in upliftingnews because this is far more than mildly interesting.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Man, good job! That's one hell of a streak to be proud of. I hope to catch up to you one day

[–] horse@feddit.org 6 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Nice! I'll be at seven years next month. Before that my calendar would have been all orange and red with the occasional black or yellow day sprinkled in and not a single green day to be found.

Quittung was probably the best decision I've ever made. Mainly because it was the first step to many more life improvements since. It's never too late to change your life!

Now that seems unfair. So you get docked if the power grid goes down? Jeez...

[–] untorquer@quokk.au 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Does the docking help with the power grid or is it just an excuse to have fun with the homies?

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

keep going, youll be clear in no time

[–] UltraGiGaGigantic@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

While rehabilitation is a very personal journey, it is from my perspective that addiction is a life long thing. There is no "clear" to get to.

I am the same addict I was when in active addiction, just with a better grasp on who I am and what my strengths and weaknesses are. People who are growing through recovery just have more tools to succeed in situations that may have tripped us up in the past back when we were "unarmed".

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

Well done, truly.

Great job! Try to make a year!

If for some reason you fail to make a year, come back to this message and read this:

spoilerDon't beat yourself up over a day or two. Have a goal and strive for it. But don't let a slip-up consume you. A year sober minus two days is still 99.5% sober. That's an A+ in my grade book. No reason not to strive for improvement, to make it to 100% next year. But never lose sight of what you've already accomplished so far. You did it once. You can do it again. Reflect on your thought process. Think of what emotional or material state lead you to relapse. Maybe write or journal about it now. Hopefully this will help your future self avoid that trap again. But otherwise, don't let this drive you further down. You are human. This is normal. Most addictions take multiple relapses to cure. Give yourself some compassion. You slipped up once, but that just means it's time to start a new winning streak.
