I replied to someone saying that the USSR defeated the Nazis saying that it was a group effort. Got into an argument and called a Nazi repeatedly because "I was mad that the USSR defeated the Nazis and hated them for it" which is ridiculous. This isn't the first time that's happened on Lemmy. What's up with that?

I got in an argument because someone there claimed the only reason the holocaust is commemorated is to support zionism and I said that there might be other reasons too to commemorate a genocide. Then I made a negative comment about put in the same thread and it was deleted immediately.

Can recommend !world@quokk.au as the best alternative

Mods on Lemmy are like the mods on reddit but on steroids. They'll ban you for completely petty nonsense.

i think you have it the other way around. on reddit bannings are more severe, since you get banned from the whole site. you are facing against a sub mod ban, filters, and then the reddit admin filters too. plus thier shadowbans seems much harder to get around with, unless you are using evasion methods. on lemmy you can get banned bya community, or instance, but still can participate in those communities and instances if you have another account. reddit does IP/fingerprinting bans, as well ashadowbans.

Well I said mods not admins.

It's worth trying out local or niche instances of lemmy as opposed to only the big ones. I think you'll find a bit more peace that way. The internet is as the internet does, but there's pockets of relief!

Don't take it personal. There are some deep Tankie holes on Lemmy, primarily .lm, they'd even take offense if you were suggesting, that maybe not absolutely everything is splendid in North Korea and I am not kidding or exaggerating here.

[–] webadict@lemmy.world 11 points 20 hours ago

They are so weird there. They were arguing that North Korea is definitely not an authoritarian regime and also definitely not starving their citizens or some stupid shit, and one of them started yelling about how I probably believed North Koreans all had the same haircut because of the mainstream media, which I... didn't, but I said if they did, it wouldn't be crazy because they have less diverse media to access, but also that wouldn't have anything to do with why North Korea's government is bad, but I was just so confused why they were mad about it.

Yeah. Welcome to lemmy.ml

Many of us just block all the communities of lemmy.ml. this way you are out of reach of the tankie mods.

Unfortunately, lemmy.ml is one of the big instances, so you're also cutting a big chunk of Lemmy content. But if enough people join the ml boycott (there are already a lot of people that block ml), eventually ml will shrink and other more sensible instances will prevail.

Oh gosh, any snarky comments about the reality of China and the fact that they are pumping out more billionaires than the US always gets deleted on ML.

They are fucking delusional and ignore all evidence that challenges their bizarre viewpoints. When it comes to Russia they are even worse. They are not wrong about Russia doing the heavy lifting in WWII, but they are definitely being assholes about it.

Whenever I am on Lemmy and noticed someone being very passive aggressive around politics you can almost guarantee they are from ML.

[–] innermachine@lemmy.world 10 points 20 hours ago

I have found that if u make a legitimate argument backed by facts that are irrefutable, the mod will ban you and delete all your comments for breaking from their echo chamber. Decided to return the favor for their whole instance so I no longer have the misfortune of seeing any of the drivel on their communities. Sucks because there was a couple I enjoyed despite the tankies, but there's much better alternative communities on other instances that won't kick u out for having a differing opinion. .ml/hexbear basically = authoritarian cuck, it's like the communist version of Trump supporters as weird as that sounds.
