Mine is pretty straightforward, "builds electronics" "has precision tools" "likely has a french press" (I do, I bought it on Amazon), "prioritizes high-speed data transfer", "Probably has a computer system with internal expansion" (I bought an NVMe SSD from Amazon once), "Likely lives in (the town in my saved shipping address)"

So surveillance. Much sleuthing.

It's a lot bigger than just this though, because they buy data broker info, which isn't included.

I once read a piece in Harper's Magazine, they bought these data brokers' bullshit and looked at their own profiles, and they were very wrong on a great many things, wrongly labeling people as gay, (facebook tried showing me gay ads at one point,) and a host of other ill informed conclusions about us.

Keep in mind, the feds, and maybe states now, buy this information to use against us. We should have some rights, but we don't.

Mine is pretty meh. Gets a lot right, but thinks I have a dog and I prefer zigbee. I have a cat (that I've bought dog accessories for) and prefer Z wave, but usually buy those things elsewhere.

Most of the things it has are directly related to a single purchase that I remember. It thinks I like a certain brand of monitor because I bought two of them for secondary monitors once. They are no-name monitors and I could not care less about the brand. It's pretty basic shit. I could probably write the algorithm for it.

Mine says "Builds Xbox controller collection gradually." I buy my husband a new controller about every 8 months because the sticks start to drift. Maybe it should say Xbox makes shit products.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 6 points 25 minutes ago

It sounds like you're just feeding xbox controllers to your husband

Since no one is linking the page and I had to go hunt it down myself: https://www.amazon.com/slc/hub?useAiMode=1

Mine doesn't have anything interesting, probably because I avoid using Amazon if possible.

Hilariously I apparently am big into adheasivly mounting things and also buying batteries. Nothing about my buttocks, sadly.

Oh. And I prefer Anker chargers.

Mine doesn't have anything of a particularly personal nature, just obvious stuff from purchase history like:

  • Likely favors Merrell brand for outdoor footwear (I have purchased the same model of Merrell shoe several times)
  • Hikes frequently (a reasonable guess about someone who repeatedly buys hiking boots)
  • Likely has a ThinkPad laptop (I bought trackpoint caps)
  • Likely owns an Olympus camera (I bought a battery for an Olympus camera)

You don't even have to purchase something several times. I bought two of the same monitor once and now it thinks I have a preference for that no-name brand. It's pretty dang dumb.

Yeah. Mine is really basic as well. It can be summed up as has kids, pets and a car.

The weirdest thing I see is "frequently repairs small engines"

I replaced the carb on my lawn mower last year. It's the only part I order from Amazon because I'm lazy and wanted an prebuilt carb. I hardly call that frequent but maybe it's a low bar.

Just checked and Amazon has this for my buttocks “Fully caked buttocks”.

Anybody know what this means?

[–] tal@lemmy.today 6 points 43 minutes ago

It means that now whatever bot is presumably harvesting Threadiverse comments now also knows that you aren't some mere half-caker.

[–] noride@lemmy.zip 13 points 1 hour ago

It means you a certified snack.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 8 points 1 hour ago

Damn, nothing about how extensively I told them to get fucked when they put ads in Prime Video

[–] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 41 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Amazon being ableist, the preferred term is diminished gluteal syndrome.

[–] CalcProgrammer1@lemmy.today 2 points 41 minutes ago

Mine is all electronics, gaming, and 3D printing, which absolutely checks out given my purchase history and reviews. Also something like "prefers high resolution display connectivity" because I bought some cables? WHY WOULD I PREFER LOW RESOLUTION DISPLAY CONNECTIVITY ALEXA? WHY?

[–] bedwyr@piefed.ca 0 points 27 minutes ago

Well they must have quite the file on how I lose my shit when they cheat me.

[–] Mantzy81@aussie.zone 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I wanted to know if I can stop doing hip thrusts yet

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 9 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I feel attacked by this headline.

[–] KingGordon@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Me too. Thought it was customized for me.
