But at what cost?

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

It was not disclosed but probably between 150-200 million USD. It was part of the bigger Chinese investition in Laos energy of 600 million USD.

Interesting! Thank you! Its a joke playing on the common refrain used whenever there are good news about China.

No problem, it sometimes is hard to convey humor in text forum in the internet.

What a weird unit to brag about.

[–] EmmiLime@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Why?

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 0 points 2 weeks ago

It's recording power over time. From the article this is since April, but without that to bound it doesn't really give the relative scale to compare it. It could be lower power over a long time or a lot of power over a short time.

I'm also not really sure that's impressive. It sounds like a lot because "billion" is big, but that's around the amount of renewable energy my metro area uses in a year. Total use is around 10B.

Its also a really small unit of energy for a power line, it's like "my car went a billion inches!"
