Disney-focused, live service, shooter made entirely with AI? This game gonna be so slop it’s gonna end popular use of the word slop.

the slop to end all slop.

the sloppening.

No More Hand-Written Code

They make programmers sound like calligraphers.

[–] DoofusAscendant@hexbear.net 29 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Just yesterday I had to comb through a 17-ft roll of parchment looking for a dropped semicolon.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago

That sounds more fun than a lot of other jobs I've had tbh

Heh, when I worked as a designer/CAD monkey I once spent about a week learning basic autoLISP and putting together a couple of very simple plugins, despite having literally no programming experience. Actual nightmare. Added bonus, the plugins weren't really all that useful as they duplicated tasks that only took ~30s each, down to maybe 10s with the plugin. They were nifty and I am proud I did it but god damn. I had thought they would take maybe an hour or so each. I was wrong.

Hey I wrote a whole suite of those when I started at my job. It was a pain just finding the documentation for autolisp...

Tools ended up saving us a couple hours on each project, but then we switched to ArcGIS Pro and I had to rewrite them all lol.

Luckily that's Python, and pretty decently documented online. Now the tooling does about 60% of the drafting work for everyone and the beauty is that we just end up doing more work!

Oh wow, I was doing some structural detailing work. I've dealt with survey data just for laying out structures (including once in a national park, which... Never again) and that was bad enough! I can't imagine using AutoCAD in a context where GIS would be more appropriate (which I am very broadly familiar with from my degree, that I did after resigning from my designer gig)

Yeah, we were doing large scale FTTH network design and tracking each fiber with a spreadsheet until I wrote some auto routing extensions lol. It saved the company and made everyone about 50x more productive, but pay only went up moderately, $16/hr - $25/hr

This is MUCH easier to do in ArcGIS since we can directly pull in county data for permitting now

Someone tell Epic it's been like 30 years since anyone used a punch card at least

it's not that i particularly like valve, it's that their competition is always so much worse

[–] booty@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I like valve well enough for what they are. They've done some horrific shit, don't get me wrong, they pretty much invented lootboxes. but generally speaking, they're pretty good for the overall gaming landscape, which is impressive when their main competitors are complete freaks like ea, ubisoft, microsoft, and now epic. like, if epic or microsoft got a functional monopoly on pc gaming every game would cost like 3x as much as it does now, you'd be paying a subscription for the privilege of buying games on their store, and there would be absolutely NO innovation to make the gaming landscape better. using linux would be illegal.

valve has had a functional monopoly in this space for like 20 years and they really haven't made life worse for their users so far

[–] Hermes@hexbear.net 10 points 1 week ago

they pretty much invented lootboxes

Really, the greater dig against them is that they have stuck with loot boxes well past the point where the harm from them could be denied.

Gabe could have enshitified Valve and own 10 times as many yachts now.

[–] DogThatWentGorp@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No part of this sentence does anything but make me frown.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The whole sentence makes me smile because it's gonna be dogshit and flop

[–] chgxvjh@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Enough great games have been made that I never need to touch a future title again if the entire industry turns to shit.

[–] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

Ya, my backlog is huge.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 20 points 1 week ago

Oh this is gonna go really well for them, I can tell. They should invest every dollar they have into this guaranteed winner.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 14 points 1 week ago

Nice of them to let us know it will be crap in advance

[–] EdlritchEconomics@hexbear.net 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is going to go one of two ways. It'll either be regular bad, nobody will like it, it'll get ignored and flop inside of a couple months, or it'll be absolutely gloriously terrible and it'll get memed on for a couple months then flop.

[–] Simon_Shitewood@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 week ago

If we're really, really lucky we could get another Morbius situation.

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Did you AI it?

Yes, but we're finding all these mistakes.

Then AI it again!

[–] THEPH0NECOMPANY@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

The secret is to have an AI code it then run it through a second AI to fix all the issues, if that doesn't work then find a third!
