For me it's The Matrix.

I never like to retread old ground, but this one's an exception. It's hard to overstate how much it blew our minds 26 years ago. I might have a soft spot for it too because I was raised sheltered and it was the first rated R movie I saw.

[–] wirelesswire@lemmy.zip 3 points 11 hours ago

I saw The Matrix a few times in theaters and watched it regularly when the dvd came out.

I raise you The Holy Grail.

The Meaning of Life; Jabberwocky & Brazil if you're adventurous (Gilliam's hand directing, these last 2).

The thing about Groundhog Day is that you only have to watch it once to have seen it several times.

Clue.

Sometimes my friends and I just sit around quoting it until we've made it through the entire movie, so maybe there's no point in rewatching it, but we do anyway.

It... it... flames. Flames, FLAMES, on the side of my face!

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 25 points 20 hours ago

Big Trouble In Little China.

Marathon Man [Dustin Hoffman, Lawrence Olivier] seems to have been designed for multiple viewings. A character seen briefly in one scene turns up later in the movie. A quick telephone call becomes incredibly important but you have to be paying close attention to every minute.

Evolution.

It knows what it is, and nobody in it is under some illusion that they're making some masterpiece of cinema. That is not at all a criticism or even backhanded compliment. I like when the actors have fun with the things they're working on. I mean, who doesn't love seen behind the scenes of Ian Mckellen slapping a dummy of Sean Aston around.

It's fun, it's ridiculous, and it leans into it a bit.

Plus they came up with the Thanos Weakness a long time before the avengers fans. ::: spoiler (it's the butthole, they attacked a giant alien anus with soap to save the day) :::

It sucks that people take the movie the wrong way and think it glorifies male toxicity. Now there’s nazi fight clubs happening all around the world.
