Please, don,t try to sell what you did as a win, it is shameful. Now everyone knows they can make the EU bend the knee at will. What a lack of self pride!!!!

It's pretty far from a win. It's backing down to a bully because you know a fight would hurt you both badly, and that you still need the help of this bully against another.
Shit sucks, but that's where we are now.
Maybe, but what I don't understand is why the EU didn't discuss also trade in services, at least not in public. The value of trade in services between the EU and the US was 817 billion euros in 2024 (according to Eurostat), quite close to the trade in goods which was 867 billion euros. And US surplus in trade in services is 148 billion euros in 2024. That is around three quarters the deficit the US makes in trade of goods which is 197 billions euros.
So the EU has leverage, especially as trade in services has been increasing extensively over the years and is reasonably expected to to so in the future.
It’s pretty far from a win. It’s backing down to a bully because you know a fight would hurt you both badly, and that you still need the help of this bully against another.
Right, the fight can hurt both sides, but capitulating today will only end with another capitulation tomorrow.

Well, we as EU could have simply let Trump know that we are a market they cannot leave.
Put a 15% additional taxes on every penny the US tech companies make in EU... and it is not really hard to do it even without them collaborating.
I mean, let the morons tariff the entire world. Their transparent tax hike scheme is just hurting themselves much more than it is hurting anyone else.
At the same time, we will give better access for American products in our market.
Yeah, that's a no from me. I will continue to boycott anything that is American, except for things that really have no alternative. Hopefully more people feel the same and cut off the money flow to Amerikkka.
creates certainty in uncertain times (...) stability and predictability
This seems to be her main point, and I disagree 100%. It seems like deliberately closing your eyes to what are daily increasing signs of the USA collapsing. And when it inevitably happens I bet she'll be all surprised Pikachu.
OTOH I see many European politicians behaving like that and I wonder if they know something I don't.
Von der Leyen has been a regular guest at the "Atlantik-Brücke" and many high ranking German politicians including current chancellor Merz are members of it.
The Atlantik-Brücke is a Pro-US-Extremist lobby group that has been grooming German politicians, economic, financial and media elites to do the bidding of Washington for the past 70 years.
Von der Leyen has been funneling lucrative consulting contracts worth hundreds of millions of Euros to the "big 4" consulting companies, while she was Minister of Defense, blatantly violating the public tender laws.
Then there was the whole thing with the COVID vaccine contracts, where again hundreds of millions if not billions have been misappropriated.
Von der Leyen is extremely corrupt and deeply entrenched with American dirty money.

Say no more...
This sounds like a propaganda crap statement to me.
Anyway FYI , The Guardian mentions also the following:
○ Vonder Leyen " also revealed zero tariff will apply to a range of other sectors including “all aircraft and component parts, certain chemicals, certain generics, semiconductor equipment, certain agricultural products, natural resources and critical raw materials”.
○ it means the cost of doing business with the US has jumped from the pre-Trump average tariff of 4.8% to 15%.
○ it means the cost of doing business with the US has jumped from the pre-Trump average tariff of 4.8% to 15%.
The US is paying 15% in US taxes on EU product. The EU isn't paying the US a cent. It doesn't cost the EU anything, except in lost sales because the US government is taking more money driving down demand.
On the other hand, this is pretty meaningless because Trump always chickens out, and this will chance in a month again.
While true in part, there will be a lot of firms that will take the hit in price increases themselves, at least partially, to remain competitive, reducing their profitability.
This is a total capitulation. Trump said "jump!", and we are saying "how high?"
She's the worst thing that's happened to Europe in the last few years. Hasn't held Israel accountable, and has been first in line to kiss ass for the US regardless of how unhinged they become. She's keeping Europe complicit with war crimes and human rights violation in the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic. She's from a political cloth that I hope is burned and thrown out soon.
Someone doesn't know anything about Neville Chamberlain.
Seems more like everyone is banking on the Dems winning the next election or Trump choking on a hamburger before then.

Yeah and it's like EU has chosen the damage control option. Something like take your loses before it gets worse.
I'm not fully convinced that this is the way. I do hope the EU has strongly negotiated. I thought they'd first threat with the trade bazooka before settling on the 15%
It's a fool's strategy. Trumpism has become the standard for American politics. The Democrats are lame ducks and are widely hated. The Republican party has become more and more brazen in violating election rules, suppressing votes, and overall not playing according to the political rules once held in place. The US will not go back to "normal" and Europe needs to ditch that ship ASAP.
It might be worse than that: European countries are one or two election cycles behind embracing their own version of Trumpist fascism. And if that's true, unfortunately authoritarian right wing rule is going to be the normal of the next 10 years.
I thought we would fight, but not this time....
I was pro EU, but now I'm not sure anymore. It seems EU just became another pawn controlled by Trump.
